Build My New SQ System

Well, if space is tight, you could just run subless. This requires a good use of door space though. You can use the P880PRS in a 3-way front stage. The only limitation is the max 200Hz lowpass for the sub out. This forces your midrange to get down to 200Hz, so you're looking at larger mids from 4" to 6" depending on what you can fit and the desired output level.
I wouldn't get stuck on amps. They are a tiny part of the end product. All you need is power, reguardless of who's name in on the cover.

You're probably looking at an 8" midbass to get decently low. You might even consider true subwoofers at this point as well. It depends on available space and power. You pair it up to a largish midwoofer at 200Hz and run the midwoofer up to the tweeter at 2-3kHz. Actual speaker choice will come down to what flavor of sound you like(smooth, crisp, warm, neutral, bright, etc.).
i agree with this you shouldent get stuck on amps i do beleve that steg are the best for SQ but that is not the part of the system that should be focused on its the speakers and whats played through them

i dont remember if you saud yu had a HU over here there is alot of Naakamichi used though ive not heard it and think its ugly

alpine is always a safe bet especially the imprint 9887 which i beleive is a good sq start as foor the hertz and focals personally once again having owned both i would use Audio Development but thats me if i was to choose over the two mentionec it would be focal all the way if you do want some great deals on any steg priducts email me

3b-inc@iinet.net.au

if you do decide to go wit the focal try for the 165k3 as i found it a bit more "enthusiastic" tan the 165k2 if you can find em get some of the older utopias theyare preety **** good as close to AD600r as i have found also there is sundown amps i beleive they make a strong clean amp as for steg amps etc the link to their products is below

you sound like a dealer. if you are, you should be banned (like showrides) for blatantly trying to deal off this forum

and because of your lack of punctuation.

to the OP, I've heard an sq car w/ all PHASS drivers and it was very musical and detailed. You may want to look into that company. it's a japanese company if that makes any difference.

OK....got a few extra bucks to build a new SQ system. Take a look at my sig and decide what goes and what stays. What goes will need a replacement and I'm sure extra / new equipement may be required.
I'd like to use the HERTZ 165's and the 880PRS as these seem like nice pieces of equipment so far. I like it loud at times while remaining clean and clear. I was leaning towards (maybe) Mcintosh amps? For the sound quality I'd more than likely go active. Use the active within the 880? You get the idea.

Everything goes into a 2005 Dodge 1500 4X4 Quad Cab.

I'd like to start this new build with a budget of something like.........$4,500.

4500 is a lot of money, especially since this doesn't include installation.

I've probably spend about 4500 on 3 different setups, first two were on the cheaper side (price wise) the last one has cost me quite a bit...regardless.

The Clarion 9255 and Pioneer P9 combo are both great HU choices, but do you need to run a 3-way active front stage, plus sub, or is two way going to do it for you? If 2-way is fine, then the 880 is a very nice choice, I love mine to pieces.

Amps: You don't need to buy Zapco to achieve good sound quality, just because you have that 4500 limit, doesn't mean you need to spend all of it, when you come in under that budget (you will) invest it into something. There's a lot of great amplifiers out there that might not have the same stature as something like Zapco, but that doesn't mean they're any worse, my personal preference is Linear Power, but they're hard to come by so unless you want to search for months, going with the bigger mainstream brands isn't bad. The Memphis amps are supposedly a great deal for the price. Alpine's PDX amps are a bit pricier than Memphis, but supposedly very well done. Also, apparently Kenwood's new eXcelon amps are a great bargain in the performance/dollar ratio.

Front Stage: I'd run active, single best thing I ever did for my musical experience. Don't be afraid to try out drivers you've never heard, I bought mid midbasses on a whim and fell in love with them. There are tons of great home audio speakers out there that work very well in car, DO NOT be afraid of the 8ohm impedance either, IMO it doesn't mean much to me at low power levels compared to most people's substage of 1kw plus, where something like 500 or 1000 watts is audibly different.

Speaking of substage, have you thought about where you're going to put it? My guess is you don't have a lot of room, I would think 2 8s or 2 10s would be sufficient, but then again i'm not a bass head so 2 10s to me is just fine.

Also, sound deaden the crap out of you cab, this will make a huge impact on quality. It'll help block out road noise, engine noise, and lower break-ups that could be caused by panel resonation. Add in some closed cell foam to that as well, it helps absorb unwanted noises as well.

Hope this helps some.

If you're stuck for space, I don't see why no one has recommended the PDX amps. Small footprint (very small) and very efficient. MSRP is high, but e-bay is a great source.

He is a dealer. And yes, he's trying to sell his wares.

Audio Master

my Chevy 2500hd Crew cab build:

McIntosh Double Din Cd/cassette deck off ebay

Rainbow Germanium Cs265.25 in factory locations

4 Elemental Design SQ10s in a slim ported enclosure behind the rear seat

Elemental Design Nine.2 amp for the Rainbows

Rockford Fosgate T8002 for the subs (will be replacing down the road)

100 square feet of eDead sound deadener.

Not worried about speakers for the rear doors right now, but when I do it will be Rainbow Sound Line Coaxs and another Nine.2 or possibly upgrade all my amps to something better. Everything is in shipping except the box, which is being built. Hopefully I can get it all istalled by Thanksgiving.

you need to spend way more than 4500 bucks to sound good mang.........
No he doesn't. that's a very common misconception.

ESPECIALLY for a 2-way system.

If I were starting new, I could build up a very nice 2-way setup for under $4k and that includes all install materials.

But, I would also be hounding the classifieds to save even more. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
