60 years in prison for his 10th conviction of driving while intoxicated !!

The punishment is just, and was given by a judge who has studied and understands the laws of our system, not some kid on the internet named Cheesemind. It's completely reasonable to assume he will end up hurting someone because drinking and driving DO NOT mix, dispite what you say about some people who have the unique ability to drink and drive perfectly.
If you wait for him to actually commit the act of harming someone in a DUI, then it's already too late, and it's unfair to the victim, the victim's family, and the society as a whole. He's been given his chances, and the law has been more than forgiving.

Smoking marijuana and drinking are two completely different ball games. There is no legitimate proof of marijuana affecting a users ability to drive or perform other activities that requires coordination.
Because it is illegal and conducting a study would break laws. Pot is just as bad as alcohol when it comes to drinking and driving. Hell as a non-smoker if i were to smoke and inhale a cigarette and try to drive i would probably kill someone because of the huge headrush

I understand it's illegal, but pot and alcohol are not just as bad when driving. Try both for yourself and play a game of basketball, tell me which is worse. Back to the topic though.

See, you're assuming that he's a bad driver while drunk. I mean, 10 DWI's, and I don't see any manslaughters on his rap sheet. Apparently the guy drives decent while drunk //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif You have the assumption that everyone who drives drunk is going to kill someone, just because some people do.
That's like saying everyone who smokes weed will end up raping white women, because the government says so.
Have you ever been drunk?

I have tried both and although the effects were different on me I would much rather drive drunk than stoned, I have more control over my faculties when drunk.

Not everyone reacts the same why with alcohol, I have a friend who acts like a complete moron when she drinks and can barely even functio, hence why she has 3 DUI's. I however can act normal and when needed can control my actions and have no DUI's

of course it isn't. Why should he ge a free ride for the rest of his life for being a worthless drunk? He should be executed for endangering people's lives through his stupidity.

The fact is, he has not harmed a single person while driving drunk. You all want to think it is inevitable, but you're punishing him as if he had already killed someone. That's my only point. I'm not saying it's a smart thing to do. And yes, he didn't learn his lesson. But the fact is: He has not harmed anyone while driving drunk. Yet he is being punished as if he had.

Dood we all know laws are ****ed. I have been harmed more from cigarette smoke inhaled in public than any drinking and driving I have done over the years.

And the addicts answer is always "if you dont like it stay home", god I ****ing hate smokers. I cant wait until my generation of smokers starts dying slow painful deaths while I kick back in my car drinking a beer

Just another way for the government to tell us what we can or can't do. Yes, driving while intoxicated is bad...But what about gambling? Do you like that the government can tell you that you can't gamble your money away on an internet poker site? The point is, the government can tell you what to do, and punish you when you haven't even hurt anyone.
The way I see it, as long as I'm not stealing someones property, damaging their property, or hurting anyone, the government should stay out of my ****ing business. But that's just my view.

http://www.essortment.com/all/libertarianwhat_rcrx.htm

"Out of the many political philosophies that exist, one of the most misunderstood is libertarianism. It is frequently labeled part of the “extreme right”, or it is merely associated with drug legalization. Truthfully, there may be several definitions of the term, but in general, libertarianism encompasses all or most of the following: strong support of individual civil liberties, social tolerance, and private property; belief in the positive powers of the free market; and an espousal of constitutionally limited and greatly reduced government. To put it succinctly, the libertarian believes in the freedom of individuals to pursue their lives as they see fit, as long as they cause no harm to others, with minimal governmental interference."

"The aspect most often associated with its philosophy by people only marginally familiar with libertarianism concerns the subject of drug legalization. What should be remembered is that the libertarian advocates personal freedom, which they believe includes the right to make decisions concerning your own body. They would argue that today’s drug prohibition is very similar to the alcohol prohibition of the 1920’s, which helped spawn a great deal of criminal activity, profiteering for criminal gangs, and turned otherwise peaceful, law-abiding citizens into criminals. (Of course, if the use of drugs by an individual causes them to harm another, that person must take responsibility for their actions, and must make restitution or receive appropriate punishment.) They also believe that the “drug war” has largely been a failure in its goals, and has diverted law enforcement away from other, more serious crimes."
Yes, you're not stealing anyones property, but if you're running around with a ski mask on with a crowbar in your hand in someones backyard, is it not justified to stick you into a squad car?

Lol, you guys are brainwashed to the core. According to the government in the 60's, black men who smoked reefer ***** white women. So every count of smoking weed is now a count of ****. That makes alot of sense...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
so driving drunk should legal? its never the drunk who dies, but it was my uncle who never harmed a soul.So fukk you if you don't like the judge's ruling....its his duty to protect innocent people

i dont want to get to into this but...there was infact a study. i linked it in a thread a while back. the end of the test concluded that people who were drunk followed too close and had very slow reaction times (and IIRC speeding). people who were under the influence of marijuana actually had reduced speeds, gave more headway (ie, followed with much more distance between them and the car in front of them). they did have slower reactions times though.

im not saying driving while high is right/a good thing, im just spreading some info //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif. personally i think drinking and smoking or whatever your drug of choice is, should be kept at home, or if you're gonna do it somewhere you need safe way to get home (ie, not driving your drunk/high *** anywhere)

when i drink and drive i actually obey the speed limit , unlike when i am sober and drive 5-10 over all the time

this is how i see it:

when smokers stop endangering my life everyday by smoking in public i will stop drinking and driving and endangering their lives

sorry to all you non drinking, non smoking people out there, hopefully when i get in my drunk driving accident i will kill a smoker

****, i need a drink;)

I could see your argument if they were blowing the smoke into your face, but get real. If you walk into a place that allows smoking then it's your fault. And I'm not saying this as a smoker, I'm saying it as common sense. If you know there's going to be a gunfight on a certain block and you go there when it's supposed to happen, then it's your fault if you get shot. You can avoid the smoking spots, 2nd hand smoke won't kill you. Your weak *** immune system might though. And FYI, the oldest recorded male, Mr Shigechiyo Izumi, picked up smoking at the age of 70, and died at 120. Did you hear that? The oldest authenticated recorded age was a man who was a SMOKER.

thats a wonderful arguement that i agree whole-heartedly with

....now if i could figure out how to know which roads drunk drivers are travelling....
