60 years in prison for his 10th conviction of driving while intoxicated !!

The fact is, he has not harmed a single person while driving drunk. You all want to think it is inevitable, but you're punishing him as if he had already killed someone. That's my only point. I'm not saying it's a smart thing to do. And yes, he didn't learn his lesson. But the fact is: He has not harmed anyone while driving drunk. Yet he is being punished as if he had.
Stupid logic...my friend lost his life because he repeatedly did it with absolutely no problems...don't preach to us about what is justified.
You told me that in person, I would knock your skull in, no questions asked.

I learned one thing in this thread, Cheesemind is a retard.

He was obviously impaired while driving, because he was caught 10 freakin times!!!!

Idiots...

you need anger managment. or maybe, since you're obviously a danger to society, maybe you should do some prison time. you're obviously impaired by your anger...

oh, and no, you wouldnt.

i guess i can chime in since i lost a loved one. One of my best friends died in a car accident at around 11pm because a drunk crossed a redlight smashing into my friend's vehicle at 65mph. Till this day, i sit here and ask god "why him?"

In this case, if the dude hasnt learned his mistakes after serving plenty of years doing time, along with 9 warnings, I don't know what will. Just because he hasn't killed anyone doesn't mean he will most likely not kill anyone. How will we know for sure? Do we sit here and wait till he does kill someone? And then what? The victim's dead, and whatever punishment you give the drunk driver, will not replenish the victim nor will all the money in the world for his family.

I'm in no way condoning it. I just think the sentence is a little harsh for the "crime". I feel for all of you who have lost loved ones due to drunken driving, I'm only arguing from a philosophical viewpoint of mine, not trying to cause any crazy emotions.
I just think that someone shouldn't be punished until they actually hurt someone, of course alot of others disagree and I understand the reasoning behind it. It totally makes sense to me, so don't think I'm against it like that.

I'm just more into letting people do what they want until they hurt someone, because as soon as you cross the line into punishing people because you "think they might eventually hurt someone", or whatever, you get into giving the government too much power to control your lives, and all they have to do is justify it by scaring you.

Take the terrorism laws for instance. Because any of us might be terrorists, they can tap your phones, snatch you up in the middle of the night from your home, search your property without a warrant, and basically ignore the bill of rights, because there's a chance that a terrorist might use the bill of rights as a way to get off a terrorist attack. To me, it seems like an excuse to give the government more power, and take away our rights. Others genuinely would give up those rights for the chance that a terrorist gets caught. It's just a matter of what's more important to you. I value personal rights more than that tiny bit of extra security. Others completely trust our government, and would give up personal rights for that added bit of security.

Anyways, off on a tangent again lol. Apologies to those I upset, just sharing my views..
I understand your arguements and I actually agree with you on a lot of it, but you are missing the point of this particular case. His prior record consisted of mulitple charges....

"Falco had nine prior DWI convictions and served prison terms from five to 10 years. He also had convictions for theft, family violence assault and forgery."

Those are some serious charges and some are actually violent. He was given 60 years because of his ENTIRE rapsheet, not for just driving drunk a couple times. The point is he had chance, after chance, after chance, after chance, after chance, (9 chances!) to learn his lesson and he never did, the penalties obviously must become more and more severe, and in the end, his entire lifestyle of being a menace to society and breaking the law landed him 60 years in jail, and it is fair in his case. If it was his first few offenses I would agree with you.

As for the smoking thing, I agree with you 100%. I hate cigerratte smoke, never even put one to my lips ever, but I think the businesses and property owners should be given that decision, and I agree the government is too involved and powerful. I also agree with you everything is about the money. While I detest cigerrattes, I don't mind smokin some bud every now and then, but I'm not allowed to sit in my living room and do that cuz the government said so, I dont get it.

ALSO, America is the NUMBER 1 INCARCERATED country in the world per capita. The jail population is exploding, and 2/3's of the ppl in there have been charged with non-violent crimes. Kind of ironic we are the land of the free, when we have more ppl in jail than any other country in the world.

Whatever slippery slope fallacy even means. My point is this. His problem is alcoholism. He wasn't trying to just be a criminal, he probably just has a drinking problem. Yes, he probably shoulda stayed off the road, but the problem lies with his alcoholism...
I would prefer to treat the problem, rather than throw someone in jail, and I guess I'm in the minority here.
His rap sheet indicates otherwise.

you are an idiot.

A man with 7 house burglaries...he should be free, its not his fault he's a klepto!

We can make up excuses for everyone...the serial ****** is a *** addict, set him free or lock him in a strip club.

the serial arsonist just loves fire...let him be a boy scout and don't go to jail even if he burns down houses.
