12" w7 sub problem

Ok, so i'm running a 12 inch JL W7 on a JL 1000/1 amp. I'm not really a genius when it comes to car audio so i figured i could get some help here. I've had it for awhile nowand am definitely loving it. However, I feel like its not hitting as hard as it could be. I've only got the amp turned half way up. Everytime i turn my cd player up past a certain number though, the sub and amp just seem to shut off. The power chart for the 12 says it can withstand up to like 1000 watts, so i'm wondering why it keeps shutting off. The weird thing about it shutting off is it usually clicks back on like 5 secs later, Is it just overheating? Thanks again!

sounds like it is wired too low of resistance(ohmage;))

Is not loud enough because it is their SQ oriented sub, lol! Sorry inside joke to the other thread about some newb cake.

Is probably something wrong with your amp, not your sub. What kind of amp are you running? A/B amp, class D? It could be a lot of different things. Might just be overheating your amp and going into protection. Play it next time and see if your protection light comes on.

perhaps you have the sub wired in a way that the impedance is dropping too low, in which the amp isnt stable. how do you have the sub wired? im not an expert either, just my 2 cents.

a 12w7 can only be wired one way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif single 3;)
incorrect. I have mine wired to .75 ohms and it was shutting off all the time. I bought a new head unit and it fixed the problem. I know it wasn't the headunit, but its weird how it fixed itself. Check your wiring.
