Hello everyone, first time asking your help here. I'm about to build a box for my fresh sub i just bought yesterday, but i dont know how many liter and the relative tuning for it. Can you please help me? The sub is from Pride, model SV3 15. I listen to dubstep, psy trance, edm in general, i generally don't like the wind machine some people love, but i want to feel the bass in my stomach and chest like a bomb. Thank you in advance.

Check out speakerboxlite and design an enclosure. Just make sure your port velocity stays under ~25m/s. And I'd personally tune between 30-36hz. I'd start at 40in2 port area and work your way up from there.

It doesn't have to be below that. You can make your port velocity whatever you want; it depends on your goals. Port velocity is only peaking at a narrow range; many frequencies are nowhere near peak speeds; you can use this to control the cone of the woofer, if you know how to tune the box correctly in correlation with box size and port velocities.

Post up the specs of the woofer or the website link to the woofer page and description from the manufacturer. I'll look at it if you do that and tell you what I see. Isn't the pride like 1.21 gigawatts RMS? LOL

Thank you for the replay. Here Is the link

i have an Apollo 5k rms as amplifier for that woofer, and as i said the mail goal Is Dubstep and edm in general. A friend told me 5,5 - 6 cu feet tuned to 40hz with 85 square inch of port . But a so large box wil not make me lose cone control? Could that work or should i build a smaller box? Please help

That's fairly large for a 15, 5.5-6 cubes. A lot of 18's work well in that airspace. Doing a 15 in near 6 cubes @ 40 hz is not what I would imagine that would sound good with this woofer. It would be maybe weird to me if they really needed that much space to operate properly. Maybe 5 cubes, but 5.5-6 is really big for most car audio 15's that I see. It looks very well like it could want or use a big box, but idk if one that big.

They don't give quite full t/s, I'd have to calculate some that I would need, I can't do that right atm. I would honestly ask the manufacturer what they recommend here. They usually can give you an idea what size to make the box. Box size can vary quite a bit, depending on what you're doing. I'd almost have to design this to tell you. I definitely would not tune at 40 hz. You can, but it'll be peaky and fall off on the low end. I'd tune anywhere from the high 20's to the mid 30's, depending on how you listen. It's ultimately whatever you want. Choose a box design that fits your music tastes or how you're using the woofer. I would only do a tuning like 40 hz if you want to try something like score a peak SPL score in competition.

I would also ask the manufacturar if this woofer can be put in a sealed box without damaging the woofer. It has a low Fs and almost certainly a huge Mms, so it might actually resonate well in sealed. I'd have to figure the Qes and Qms, because they should give those two instead of just total Q (Qts). Whyyyyy don't companies post full specs lol.

Hi. i asked the manufacter what kind of box could be done for it, and they told me "3,53 cu feet with 54.3 square inch of port long 33.5 inch tuned to 31. So, what can i expect from that? Tuned so low can i still play dubstep and similar genre?

I think that's a good tuning. Knowing recommended box size is most important. You can manipulate tuning and port area more wildly, usually, than box size. I would stick to a big port area for that sub, and tuning is whatever you want. 31 will sound good on dubstep, IMO. That lower tuning helps with the crazy dubstep. When you get those songs with bass that's all over the place frequency wise, and then you get rolling or sweeping bass, that lower tuning can help the sub generally have a smoother transition between notes, or at least sounds that way. You'll still play fairly high with that tuning. That sub is going to be very loud, you need a very serious box for a sub with that kind of power.

Half of what I listen to is electronic music, personally. EDM sounds best to me, I repeat, TO ME, at 28-32 hz. I like doing stuff stupid that breaks my car, so I tune to 28 hz or so. 29 hz was my last big box and tuning.

Thank you Buck for your precious information, i stick with that tuning then but a little bigger port. I will post pics when its all done, thank you again

Personally I would only tune to 31hz for playing movies or with certain subs that are designed to play wide flat bandwidth tuned low (JL W7, Adire Brahma, etc.). It is very likely that making the box larger (if you have space without crowding it anywhere) you could go up to 4 cube and tune a bit higher. 36-38hz tuning will get you more output where most of the EDM music bass notes happen. It's not like your box stops playing right at tuning so if you tune to 31hz you'll be able to play down probably to 26-27. I have not found any of that style music that contains anything near that low. Tuning @36 should control the sub down to around 30 which covers just about anything you'll run into on normal-speed music.

Consider also if you make the box too big it is easy to shrink volume later by adding 45 degree pieces to corners or similar, and if you get creative there are a few relatively simple ways to modify tuning to experiment and see what sounds best for you.

That seems very logic. I want to be honest, i don't like too much that kind of car full of flex and wind but no music, that kind of car where the only thing you hear is the vibration of things, so maybe i go for 4 cubes at 37hz and try out. Do you think that can work for the most music genre? Some rock here and there too? What port size for that box?

That sub is going to hit regardless. You need to make sure that you have very solid mids/highs to keep up with that sub. It sounds like you will have to set your gain fairly low on your sub amp.

I'm searching for the best box for open door music listening, not a hairtrick machine you know what i mean, i have 2 10s and a pro audio driver each side in the front. Do you agree with "Hispls"? 4 cubes around 36-38? I want your opinion too
