Its actually kinda cool. But yeah those door pods look like a set of bookshelf speakers

A piano black finish on MDF takes a lot of steps. Basically, have to put filler on the whole pod to start with. Then, sand, primer, filler, primer, sand, primer, sand (600 grit). Paint, wet sand (600) paint, wet sand (1,000), paint, wet sand (1200), paint, wet sand (1500). Then, clear, wet sand (1000), clear, wet sand (1200), clear, wet sand (1500) then two coats of clear to finish. The process is no joke. At least, the midbass and tweets are in little enclosures. Only a hole big enough for the speakers wires to come through the back of the door panel.

Probably as much work as fiberglass....

Fiberglass wouldn't have looked right in a 55 year old German Bug. Plus, nothing else on the car is fiberglass.

Doesn't rattle at all. The entire car is sound deadened. Under the hood, under the dash, and even the wood roof slats are padded.
