What should my voltage be when my car is running...

Come back when you've actually done some troubleshooting

I'm pretty sure it was because I grounded amp to the frame. Also I didn't prep the ground points.

Had only one fuse at the main battery hadn't installed the other 2.

Anyway wasn't too surprised when it blew.

Ordered the taramp hd3000 and third battery. 25ft of ofc 1/0 to tidy up the wiring

Battery,----->200amp fuse-------------->200 amp fuse----->battery------->fuse-------amp

Is that not how to properly wire it?

I only had the first fuse when it blew

That's correct. Your grounds need to be bare metal and you need to check for voltage drop before you're confident that it's a good ground. If your voltage at the bank is more than +-.1vDC different than the alternator/front battery you have a problem.

When I did the big 3 I followed this guy's guide except my runs are shorter and 1/0

If it isn't the ground wire then im going to a pro

Thing that makes me go hmmm is that my headlights or never dimmed when I was running a skar rp1500 and that guy said he had a 500w Alpine amp that made his lights dim when bass notes hit

That means there's a voltage difference between the front and back.

I didn't have my alternator ground connected to the front battery.

I had a ground from front battery to frame and a separate ground from alternator to frame. both in different locations on the car

Could that have caused a problem?

It could. Again it's hard to speculate without you doing actual testing for voltage differences. If the alternator is seeing 14v+ and the front battery sees, say (guessing here) 13.5v and the rear battery sees 12.5 or 13v, you have a big problem.

You really don't even need my advice, you're smart enough to check these things and report back if a more complicated issue occurs.

Thx bro for the help. I'm at 14.2 after basically starting from scratch and this time making clean shiny metal grounds.

This little taramps 3k is pretty bad ass for such a small footprint

Glad to hear it. It makes a big difference when you make high quality terminations.
