Why is my sub cutting out at higher volume??

I have a 12" jl w3v2 in a 3 ft^3 ported box tuned to 32 hz. My sub is cutting out randomly during songs and coming back on (within a second) and then repeating that every so often. It never used to do this, and it only does it at volumes higher than 30ish (out of 60). What could be the problem? Thanks guys ...

Sounds like your amp is clipping. Check the gains, they are too high.

next time that happens look at your amp and see if there is an led light light up. look for the one labeled protection. if that one is on. then ether the amp is over heating, you may have to low of a load in ohms. if there is an amber light on that might be the clipping protection, if that one is constantly flashing and then going steady on before the amp cuts out, then lower your gain or if you have the bass boost on turn that off of down.

I just had a similar problem like you. I have a pioneer head unit that goes to about 60 for volume. Whenever i would play my system at around 39 or so, the amp would shut off and come back on.

I figured it out to be the remote turn on lead from the back of the HU. I disconnected it, and hooked it up to my red ACC wire. Everything was fine after that.

Someone mentioned it sounds like clipping. How so?

PowerNaudio seems to have a logical answer. I dont know of too many amps that have a clipping light on them though. What kind of amp do you have TJ?

Justin also has somewhat of a sensable answer. Check your wiring. Something may be loose and when you crakn up the volume it causes connection problems.
