equipment:
Hifonics Brutus 1500d
Mofo12 by PA in 2.4^3 (manufact specs)
pioneer 7700 HU
scorsche 4guage from Hot to amp
6" ground:
4ft 3" 8guage from amp to subwoofer:
I wired pos/neg to each coil , and bridged the coils externally to the enclosure:
I hope to soon post pics of my install .. it was clean ,neat , sharp , hid , and well planned for performance as well as cosmetics.
I used a nitrous switch, too toggle on and off my amps , one toggle per amp :
Problem:
Keeping the amp on almost full gain ((yeah I know brutus can put out a shit load)).
The box was 3/4" MDF with inside laid fiberglass to coat everything including seems of the enclosure.
I was absolutely astonished at how hard one ****ing subwoofer hit in my 1994 XLE v6 camry compared to two Kicker Comp Vr's of my cousins.. so slamming power into the ole mofo for about one month hitting clean and HARD ! Out of the clear blue the mofo12 began to distort .. I was mind set that my enclosure was rattling loose and not the sub being faulty. So I built a whole new enclosure for it and changed the tuning while I was at it. After installing.. I burned the VC's in slowly like always @1ohm .. and I got up to 18 of 62 on the volume ((mind you keeping it on just 1 could be heard inside a home)) and it distorted like before.
I was pist, I checked gains, bypassed the eq , tried a different amp , and swapped the sub from the box with a temp sub which hit clean.. so frustrated I inspected the mofo and found nothing ,nor a stinch. I hooked it back up and said ****it.. I jammed her till she died which wasnt long after.
Soon after the smoke cleared my trunk.. knowing the fate of the woofer .. I took the mofo's non-magnetic bolts out, deconstructed the magnets from the support frame and there was the mechanical thermal weekness. ALL the wire around the thin aluminum bobbin was burned crisp and smelled like a burned resistor from a project gone bad . Soon after .. I boxed the mofo back up .. and I supplimented it with another subwoofer. I turned on the hifonics and about 15 seconds after all 3 of my amps shutoff. It burned the 100a fuse from the main line, when I tried it on each branch of the distro same problem occurred only for the brutus.
Oh btw.. if this helps ! Voice coils look emaculate , cone was froze up untill I un-wound the bobbin. ODD as it is .. the Hifonics AMP on the last bad fuse blowing occurance set off like fireworks inside the amplifier.
The fuses werent touched, still the same fuses in the amp that arrived from Ike sounds. So , Im wondering if the amp went faulty , maybe overpowered the subwoofer in some way and both dettered slowly. Or , the mofo's fate caused a negative reaction to the electronics in the amp.
I dont have an explination so I hope one of you do. Either way im looking to send them both back and have them replaced free of charge .
for those who read this.. I posted a second post on considering diff subwoofer , and I have questions some of the pro's here can maybe help me on.
