What would be a good sub choice?

Alright, I just bought an '01 Lexus IS300. I paid a little bit more than I wanted to, so it came out of the audio account //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif It turns out, however, that the stock speakers sounds great. So, because I don't have the money to upgrade the already nice speakers to components, I am looking into a simple amp and sub setup. My requirements:

-I don't want it to drone out the stock speakers (no need for it to be defining)

-I'm loking for something that sounds extremely clear and accurate

-Want to spend $1000MAX installed (I don't really want it to go that high, but I will if it is worht it)

With these guidelines, what are some good options? Thanks!

I think you'd be just fine with a single 10" or 12" sub in a sealed or even low tuned vented enclosure. Take a look into the Eclipse Aluminums, Elemental Designs Kv.2 series, Ascendant Audio Atlas, Adire Koda, Resonant Engineering SE, and Oz Audio Matrix Elite among others. If you can take a look at those and narrow it down to a couple, we can help you pick out an amp that would fit.

I'm a newb at this, so please excuse my dumb question. What would the difference be between 1ohm, 2ohm, and 4ohm? Which type should I be looking at?

I like the Eclipse SW7124DVC-T4. Would a Diamond Audio D3 400.2 work well with this setup if it was bridged for 400@4ohms?

Yes, there is a difference between ohm loads. If you get a dual voice coil sub, they come in dual 2ohm or dual 4ohm configurations. Dual 2ohm subs can be wired to 4ohm or 1ohm to the amplifier and dual 4ohm subs can be wired to 2ohm or 8ohm to the amp. Usually, the lower the ohm load, the more power the amp will put out. Be careful if you choose the dual 2ohm driver and want to wire it to 1ohm because not all amps are 1ohm stable. You can usually save yourself some money by getting a dual 2ohm subwoofer and wiring it to 1ohm. Do you have a sub you like? We can probally help you pick out an amp that would match up with it if you do.

If you're going to bridge an amp to 4ohm you need a dual 2ohm driver. If I were you, I'd stick with that sub but find a dual 2ohm version.

well if your going to have it installed the 1rst order of business is checking out the local shops and see what they carry. there are just too many good (and bad) choices to recommend anything in particular without being biased. What we can do though is tell you yah or nay once you've narrowed YOUR choices down.

I think the Diamond would be a good choice. I hear they make some solid amps. Also check out the Elemental Designs NiNe.2. I have one and it's been great so far.

I just talked to my sound guy, and he suggested an AlumaPro sub. I've never heard of these before...does anyone have any opinions? He said it's been the best sounding subwwofer for 12 years.

I've heard of AlumaPro, but not much of anything about them. Try running a search in the Product Review section or google it for some reviews.
