What is a good track car?

Forget the jap junk and go american. Yes you can get an import there, but it will be a LOT of $$$ and reliability becomes a problem.

80's malibu, 400" SB on the gun and you're there. Search youtube for "scrappy" at GLD and you'll see a prime example. Believe DOM87SS is the guy who posted the vids.

Sorry I guess I have been watching too many fast and the furious movies. Basically I want something I can bring to the track and compete with most other cars there without being embarassed.
If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for yours? Do you like it so far?

What do you think a realistic number with turbo, chip, exhaust and cold air would be?
Perhaps if you were to be asking questions like that maybe you should visit the eclipse forums to do some learning about things. You are asking for numbers that anyone can just bs and that.. Seriously, if you are really looking into eclipses go to their forums and check out all the performance stuff. Like how much the stock block can run and when you will be needing to upgrade ur clutch and stuff like that. You are also asking about a turbo setup that would be completely dependent on which turbo you use, how its tuned and whatever else you have done to the engine. If i remember correctly the V6's in the eclipse run a bit higher compression so you would most likely have to swap some internals to run a turbo safely.

If you're into muscle then possibly a fox body mustang? 80's mustangs were known for being very lightweight and since you are thinking turbo it then you could get into the 9's with it. Course this is only if you know what you are doing. And guessing from the op's original question it really doesnt sound like it at all. It takes more than just performance engine parts to get going that fast.
Edit: Streetassasin beat me to the fox body idea..

Thing is I am a little mexican dude I would look kind of silly in any of those, plus none of them have the looks of the Eclipse and not many of the cars in my price range come close HP wise stock.

This will be my DD/Track Car so it needs to be reliable, unfortunately from my experience American cars just are not reliable enough for me to depend on to get back and forth to work everyday.

Plus every chick I have talked to said the Eclipse is hot!

Sticker on mine was 16ish i'm not sure exactly, it's complicated. cause of trade ins and re-pricing.

But mine is a 2006.

With CAI. good turbo, intercooler, ECU, Exhaust etc. You are probably looking at a maximum of about 11 seconds with the clipse without massive weight reduction and other upgrades.

But like i said 11 seconds is nothing to sneeze at, the Bugatti only does 10. The fast and the furious makes it out to be way too easy. Most street cars just aren't designed to do a quarter mile that fast. They want top-end and top end sacrifices 1/4 time.

No dude, look into a 350z. can be had cheap and there are lots of very high performance parts readily available for them. They are fast too.

I also looked at the Scion TC but it is pretty weak stock but I do believe there is an aftermarket turbo kit for it.
you are going backwards dude. scions are shit marketed to rich kid's looking for a first car who know nothing. They are weak as fvck.

Wouldn't a new head gasket and headers help this some? Sorry just looking quickly on the net and it seems this should help some.

I also did find some Mitisu forums but they are a pretty rough crowd. Worse than you guys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif so I would rather learn a little than be told 'search ****ing noob' and saw a guy here with one so figured it was worth a shot.

Even I am considering the Z and I dislike jap cars.
I had an early 80's Datsun back in the 90's that just had nonstop problems so I will never own another Nissan product. The 350/370z is the only thing I find comparable in looks to the Eclipse.

I had a Mitsubishi Galant I put 200k on with no issues so they have earned my business.

haven't heard/ read much wrong with the 350z. I heard the 370z has a very cramped engine bay. Probably the 350z as well.

I am 3 years out from something so I am just getting an idea and starting to save up.

instead of car talk we should talk money. What is your budget? you'll prolly be looking at around 20k for a car then its mods to get even close to 9secs. Just buy a car that is already built for around 12k. I see mustangs all day being sold with 500+hp for around that.
