since this is an sq based sub how would you compare it to an idmax?

Like most mid-size SUVs my Explorer loves the 50hz range. It peaks @ 55hz.

yeah it was kinda hard to see in the pic. i know remember some ppl talking about like i think 98 explorers peaking at like 50hz or so

The cones are different. the Z has a notch that the dust cap sits in, the Nightshade does not.
Edit: the Z also has a bigger lip on the dust cap.

Correct - and the Nightshade has a stiffening disc under the cap and the glue around the cap is used to fill in the thickness of the cap and that part stacked together.

The first thing I thought of when i saw the specs was how similar it was to the v3 mag, should fill a very large hole in the market that has been left vacant for some time

I don't consider the newer Explorers to be mid-sized at all. There a bit larger than the previous models like mine.

The saz-2000d is more like 2.5 times the power and also puts the subs more in their sweet spot. They were really under-powered with the saz-1000d. They were also really under-powered with the saz-1500d. The saz-2000d is a good match but it was the saz-3000d that made them come alive. I can't wait to get an saz-3500d (or two) on them.

My testing this morning on two Dual-2 Z15s on single prototype amp @ 1/2 ohm:

6930 actual true RMS clamped watts total.

Using my Extech True Power Meter... takes reading about 5-6 seconds in to the burp:
