Sundown Audio z-12 v.7

So, what's the equipment you will feed such an SPL monster with?

You need a very well-built box and at least a 5k amp for that woofer.

Which also means supporting that with speakers who can keep up. Another 1-2k amp, upgraded electrical, etc. Music preferences?

SQL,SPL/SQ?

What's the goal, what's the budget?

I'm still in the planning phase. I want to run components up front. I've ran
Infinity Kappa perfets in the kick panels and rear deck. I usually run them off a Soundstream amp. I'm looking at a Sundown amp to power the sub. Of course, a digital signal processor, a 3-way electronic crossover, and a base reconstruction unit are on my list. I'm not sure about the head unit. With the dash in the 2022 Audi S5, I'm pretty limited. This car is my daily driver. but I do like my music very loud and clear. I'm going for sound quality. budget isn't unlimited, but I'm willing to pay for high quality.

Coup or liftback - with or without the B&O system?

Okay, no need for the crossover if you are running a DSP and an active setup. That sundown is pretty overkill, an SPL beast to be sure, but beyond loud.

How large a box will that Audi fit?
Factory openings, dash up, pods?

May not need the bass restoration unit with the DSP either. Unless you listen to a lot of 50's, 60,s 70's stuff that has less than optimal bass from the original recordings.

Who is going to do the DSP tuning?

Front 3-way front stage only or 3-way front sdtage and rear fill?

Factory HU?

For a more musical sq build the z series might not be an ideal candidate lol
I'm not much of a sundown guy but from What I understand i think their U series and SA series are their more "musical" series of subs

You might be able to get the U or SA to blend better with midbass

My last daily driver system was; Clarion FZ709, Soundstream 3 way electronic crossover, Soundstream Amps, Infinity component speakers, and a single Treo Engineering SSX 12.22 wired at 1 ohm. That was a very hard hitting system and sounded good. Some would say it wasn't SQ, but it sounded good to me.

Been a minute since the TREO SSX was available.

I would categorize the SSX line as an SQL driver, which the Z-12 v7 really isn't. That is not to say it doesn't sound good; on the contrary, for what it is, a substantial driver.

But you're talking about going from a 2k-watt SQL sub to a 3.5k SPL sub; there are compromises resulting in changes to the sound signature, for sure.

Additinally, you're talking about going from a 2.5k to 3k amplifier setup to using something in the neighborhood of 5k watts, which will require some real electrical upgrade considerations.

Add to this another 1k for the other parts, you're getting into some considerable power requirements that are not your average nice setup, it's a serious endeavor that needs serious electrical/mechanical/installation considerations to boot!

So, without knowing the other info, as requested prior, it's just a conversation at this point.
