Testing Sundown's new z15"s

Besides everything ? *laughs*

Not a single part is the same between the two to be honest //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Except the basket, of course. Even the cone, dust cap, etc are different between the two.

Nightshade -- Z

8-layer Flat Coil -- 4-layer Round Coil

3 spiders -- 1 spider (different type of spiders as well)

160-180 BL^2/Re -- 110 BL^2/Re

~60 lbs -- ~35 lbs

The Nightshade has a top plate twice as thick and most other aspects of the motor are different to contribute to the extra weight.

impressive.. looks to be a good design.. why not go the extra step and add some faraday rings above and below the topplate and get that inductance down and powerhandling up? 3" 4 layer round copper coil is going to have a faily high LE.. not knocking your woofer design or swagger just a thought...

For the target price / market on these I did not think it would be worth it. The power handling is already very conservatively rated at 1000 watts and the Le is not terribly high - these have similar T/S specs (including Le) to the SI Mag v.3 which was, and still is, very highly regarded for sound quality.

The coil is actually not copper, though, that would have been too heavy for this design //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Only the E8 uses a solid copper winding in our line -- the SA-12 will use CCAW wire, but all of our 3" coil drivers use aluminum to keep mass down.

I am working with various applications of aluminum and/or copper in some other motor designs, though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i like your style man, really.. most people would have disregarded my comments or tried to defind there product... In no way shape on form am i tring to knock you and i know you products are great..

ultimatly i choose the AE AV speakers because i like john.. honest hard working man, and he has always made great products as long as i have been around(about 10years now)..

you will definitally get some recommendations from me. if fact I am buliding a system for a friend he needs 800-1k(limtied on space electrical upgrade and of course a budget)

do you have the 12s in stock? it will be in the next week or 2.. i would love to give the Zs a try...

cool, althought many correctly built amps DO hepl absorbe back EMF theres only so much it can absorb(owner of lunar amplifiers say LE isn't revelant but i know better) for any high powered application with larger 2.5 and 3" coils the faradayrings help high frequency extention and blending with the midbass.. it brings the soundstage forward a good deal when installed properly... most people claim xover @60 on midbass sounds alot better but frankly the like of output in the midbass vs the woofers is what REALLY bings the soundstage rearward, not the crossover point... when the output is matched with the woofers from the midbass it really sound much more "upfront" this is the biggest reason i don't praise the w7 ID max and alot of other "SQ woofers".. may i mention i heard the mag v2s and they where excellent all around woofers... anyways thanks for bringing a good, solid fair priced product to the market..

are they coming out in 12"s? very interested in a pair, iv been looking to get a pair of 12"s sealed and still get some SPL out of it.
I believe they are but not for a little while now.
