SX making weird noise

I had an SE that did this at moderate to high volume levels, turned out the voicecoils was out of alignment and they sent me a new one. Try to reset your gains and possibly try another sub to see what happens. Is your sub ported in a box tuned too high without a subsonic filter, or a really large sealed box?

Yeah it is ported, but i dont have a subsonice filter on my amp. Im going to order one of those Fmods off of partsexpress.com. Since my box is 35 hz would a 30 Low pass or 30 high pass be right? Also the magnets did look a little out of alignment, so i called the guys at RE and he said that i can send it back and they would look at it. If they say theres nothing wrong with it then i dont think i will ever by from them at all becuase there is something def wrong at higher volumes. thanks guys for the help.

when does it sound like its bottoming out? low bass or higher bass or what? what exactly are you listening to...

yes i did at one point have a problem with my sx. the motor disatached from the basket. here are the steps i would go about with it

1: pop the sub out and play a song fairly loud in free air and watch the sub...see if any noise is comin from the sub. also during this time check to make sure nothin is loose on the sub

2: im not to familiar with that song but i know 36 has a lot of low shit but i doubt that it goes low enough to damage your sub without a subsonic filter. so second i would see that your gain is set correctly, you might think its bottoming out, but in all actuality you might just be clipping or distorting. of course this is dependant on whether you have knowledge in this area to dicern what bottomin out sounds like and what distortion sounds like on a sub

3: if the sub seems fine outta the box at a certain volume play the song again while holdign the woofer and get someone else to adjust the volume on the deck while you watch the sub again. might sound like option 1 earlier BUT that was just to make sure everythign was functioning correctly while this is more to see if you can reproduce the noise.

4: make sure that if your box is a big one (not sure what your size is) that there is no flexing, cause flexing can cause a nasty sound too (trust me i know considering my ****in brace wasnt bracing my box the way it was when it went in there lol

I would be VERY careful playing your sub free-air. It would need MUCH less power to reach full excursion, and it will be VERY easy for you to damage the woofer.

Where is your gain set? Bass boost or any of that crap turned on? Are you SURE your box is built/tuned correctly?

For the Fmod, you need a 30hz highpass.

i know about the free air part. thats why im sayin when he play it real quiet just to get it moving he can listen and see if it sound alright. then when hes gonna turn it up to make it move more he needs a buddy to "spot" him basically, so he can watch the sub and hsi buddy can control the volume. of course you gotta use some of that beautiful thing we call a mind when runnin free air //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Well, you had put "play it fairly loud free-air" in your post......I just wanted to clarify that "fairly loud" when a sub is free-aired isn't the same volume setting as it would be if the sub were in a box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Not everyone understands the effects of a box/no box on a sub's mechanical limits.....and over the internet it's hard to tell who does and who doesn't

most definatly, and i take full blame for that. i should of clarified it more but if it makes sense to me i think it make sense to everyone which isnt true. thanks for clarifying. i should also add gettin my sx's to play fairly loud in free air would be quite a feat. they move in free air but they dont put out much bass lol. of course they arent designed as free air subs but thats not the point. the point is-to get them to play fairly loud in free air is gonna results in a screwed woofer, so i think youd better heed to squeaks advice

maybe it is a horrible rattle in the car where panels only clank together above a certain volume? if they say its fine why wouldnt you buy from them? its not their fault that the subwoofer is fine and something else isnt...
