subwoofer distortion help meee

50 volts - if that's the case you are over-driving that amp into some serious clipping. That is major distortion you are listening to.
Power = 50v * 50v / 2 Ohms

Power = 1250 watts

Look into getting a larger amplifier if it is not producing the output you expect it to.
wouldnt it be v*v/r/efficiency? or is that wrong? i came up with 50*50 = 2500 / 2 ohms * .80 (80% efficiency at best) and got 1000 watts? teach me the math cuz i always forget it lolz.

but I believe he has 2 dvc4 ohm subs and running the amp at 1 ohm (which it isnt rated for) he has this ? somewhere else IIRC on another forum, or thread here.

I don't think it matters whether you factor in efficiency or not, he is still over-driving that amplifier and is hearing the effect(s).

If you look up the model of his subs you will see that they are sold as a set in an enclosure. The site states the product has a 2 Ohm nominal impedance.

alright well if this amp puts out around 800 watts rms which is what my subs are rated for will i be good going with a 1000 watt rms amp? like i said before i can have my gains down real low to stop the distortion and then the voltage at the terminal is lower but the subs are so **** quiet and im positve they should be louder on that much power because i have heard a kid with two mtx jackhammer jh45's on half the power and they were just as loud as these but with no distortion whatsoever.

yea its 2 ohms at the terminal on the box. ive checked that before because i thought maybe they were wired wrong internaly possibly

Its a tough call since you are comparing an apple-to-orange setup here. Perhaps the other person's install was (perceived) louder due to the type of vehicle, whether the person applied deadener, how the subs were positioned, etc. etc.

Jumping from 800 to 1000 watts will help you little. For every 3dB of volume gain, you theoretically require twice the power. So, from 800 to 1600, to 3200 and so on.

What kind of vehicle are we dealing with here?

i actually have most of my car dynamatted. the entire trunk and rear deck and all 4 doors. i used 72 square feet in my car. well i have a saturn ion ha gay car but yea. the trunk is pretty big

i think what i may do is just say the hell with 12's they just dont do it for me. im possibly thinking of getting two kicker l7 15's and getting a second amp around 800 rms so i have like 800 rms for each. then making a box thats around 10 cubic feet because i think thats the biggest i can get in my trunk. and it would be ported

ha ive been trying to do that but everyone around here has like shitty sony xplod amps from walmart ha so that wouldnt really solve my problem... but yea theres one kid im trying to get together with so i can try his amp out because has a sorta decent kenwood amp and his subs sound real good on it. im probalby gonna buy a new amp anyway cause i want to have two cause im really thinking about maoving to 2 15's. any amp suggestions?

I *think* what CJ is trying to tell you is not to head down the same path you've been. You want things to slam hard? Start looking at some serious beef.

would you shut the **** up already quit posting on her if you just want to be a little *****. by that i meant when im not sending my amp into clipping its quiet as shit so im gonna upgrade to two fifteens and i wont have to ****in clip the amps to make it loud

yea i understand that man im not retarted in that sense im sick of this cj ****er tho im just looking for some help here. ok heres another thing i want to put out here, i was messing around with them alot today and it seems to be from like 40 hz to maybe around 30 hz where the distortion is present even with the gains low ( and unlike cj thinks, my bass boosts are completely off and no loudness on or anything.) why would i get the distortion within just that frequency range?
