Sub Sounds better when window down

kicker_comp10__65074.jpg

this is the shitty comp

O dam, I guess i got the shitty one from looking at the pictures. But it sounds alright though and hits hard for my first sub.. Well i have nothign to compare it to really. Well yes i do i had a walmart Jenses sub that was trash. But i am going to consider buying one of those subs you said on the first page..

about the window

Ohh alright, my friends sound better with the window up in his honda civic but i guess its different for every car.

yeah it differs per car. i had a regal years ago with 2 crossfire 15's and 4 mtx 10's and it sucked with the windows up. but i could be heard over the system in AVo2 (rave club that has been gone for 10 years LOL) when my windows were down.

lol and i have the sub in the back seat of my truck so there less room.

i think its because the pressure from being closed in and no flowing air causing the subs to produce less bass.if the box was ported it would be louder but compared to w the windows down it would still be less loud.the air flowing in and out of the cabin relieves pressure build up.

i'm surprised no one mentioned wave cancellation... this "airflow" business is kind of dumb. when your windows are up (car completly sealed) the pressure waves have more surface to reflect off of back into the car (windows). when these secondary waves come into contact with the primary waves generated by the sub they are more than likely out of phase with eachother. if the primary and secondary waves were of the same intensity, and exactly out of phase the pressure would mathematically equal zero. now your waves may not be exactly out of phase, but enough to noticably reduce pressure. when you open your windows, the extra reflective surface is eliminated, thus removing the "would-have-been" secondary cancellation waves. there isn't really a mystery to the "my windows are open and the bass got louder" phenomenon. the trick (well a trick) to getting loud is trying to get as many waves as possible , either primary or secondary, exactly in phase; thus mathematically multiplying the sine wave's pressure in a given point in space.

get the general idea?

divide thread
yeah not sure why you'd want to divide the thread? why not just end it? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

but i got a paint picture that i gotta post first for the sake of bass knowledge, and the dude with the kicker comp sonny.
