Sub Sounds better when window down

Hey for some reason my sub sounds better when the window is down. Like i get more bass when the window is down. I am wondering why is that? I am using a Kicker 12 comp and the box size i am not sure of but the box is big because i customly made it. But for some reason it sounds better when the window is down.

Also the sub is in a Ford ranger has the seats in the back but not very big.

That's common for everyone. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but your car then acts like a large bandpass box, and the air now flows out the windows which is obviously closer to your ear so it will sound louder. Now on the termlab, I really dont know if it'd be any louder or not.

the box is sealed. So if i make a ported box it will be better? I wont have to have the window down to get the good bass sound? I mean i dont mind riding with the window down but sometimes girls trip when the window down because there hair.. LOl

I don't know what to say to you, man. Of course it'll be a little louder in a ported enclosure, but still, it's only going to do so much...

i actually dont have that problem. my sub plays louder and deeper with the windows closed. like i havent bought a dash kit for my van yet and the head unit will bouce in the dash hole with the glass up but with it down it wont. LOL.

and how did you build a custom box and not know what size it is?

**** , someone gave me a comp 10 about a year ago and i hooked it up..............for 5 minutes.

turned right around and gave it to somebody else. i was so dissapointed. i remember the kicker comps i had when i was a teenager (Mid 90's) and they were flippin awesome. The things they call comps nowadays are terrible. i mean they hold like 100 watts!! LOL.

if i had to "enter" into the kingdom of car audio with those subs , i would have immeadiatly searched for the exit.

Ohh, yeah i just build the box so it would fit and made sure the enclusure is big enough for my sub. But i guess it just my sub sense you guys say the Kicker comp is trash. But it hit hard though when the windows are down but when they are up it will rattle more then give bass.

yeah. if you are on a budget get a kicker cvr or hifonics hfi. the hfi's are 300 watts RMS and only cost 40 bucks new. my buddy has 4 of them in a towncar on a cheap 600 watt pioneer monoblock and it hits pretty decent for 40 dollar subs on a walmart amp.

Well my sub is 300watts RMS also. But i will look into one of those..

you sure? if its 300 watts RMS then its one of the old school comps , not the shitty new ones. is it black and yellow/grey or does it have a big red and white Kicker logo?
