What type of screws do you use to secure subs?

When I took my subs out of the box I realized that 3 of the 8 screws have snapped in half, I was using #6 x 1 5/8 drywall screws so I think I underestimated the weight and vibration. The mounting holes on the subs aren't very big and it is really close to the rubber surround and gasket so I can't use big bolts, so how do you guys go about this?

I don't have a pic handy but RF includes these beefy allen head screws with there subs and I have seen the same ones at fastenal for a couple bucks a box, I like them because it makes it a little more difficult to put a driver through a speaker especially when you use a ball end key.

Yeah, I use to think those were awesome too. Unfortunately t-nuts dont stick in mdf very well, and if so much as one slips out of the wood, you will be cutting the box in half to remove the speaker. The first time I tried them, 3 out of the 8 slipped out. Never again.

You have to use glue when you first insert the T nut into the wood.

Thats what I usually use for my enclosures, but a good machine bolt wins hands down, especially if you plan to remove and replace the driver often.

With the amount of stress placed on the bolt/nut upon tightening and loosening them, I wouldn't expect glue to do much except give me a false sense of security. I haven't tried it though, have you... and its worked without fail? Multiple times?

Go to an ACE hardware store and look for chrome plated automotive philips head screws. They have a permenantly mounted washer on their heads and are super strong. Its what I use to hold in my 80 Lbs 18's in my wall.
