Sub ?'s

I don't think you guys understand... i'm NOT going to use a gigantic box. I realize I won't have the best possible box I can build. I'm fine with that. I would rather have a less than perfect sub box, than something the size of my refridgerator in my living room. I'm an avid sound enthusiast, but I'm not quite an audiophile... yet. As of now, it's form over function, and a huge sub box just isn't in the plan.

My current sub box isn't very large, and I am happy with the sound. All I would like is a little more output, and I feel like building something when it gets a little nicer out. Hell as long as it sounds just as good as my Klipsch, i'm fine. I want to have something that I built rather than something I bought.

So with that being said, would I be better off going with a 4 cube sealed, or 2.75-3.0 cubes @ 22-24 hz? I'll probably go with a 1k watt plate amp.

more output would be the "2.75-3 @ 22-24"...if you want good response at higher levels vented tuned low will IMO always sound better...sealed enclosure would begin roll off at a higher frequency than the low tuned vented

I just modeled this and 3 @ 22 hz would be money. I was wrong about going sealed. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If you had the money, I would probably invest in the 1000W simply to tap into more of the Brahma's potential and for some headroom during normal listening. If you don't need the PEQ, you may want to check out eD's plate amps. They are made by Keiga and they have a 1300W model that costs a little less than the Dayton's 1000W.

If you don't need the extra power, 500 should be plenty. If you go with a 500W amp I would probably get the O-Audio BASH, which costs the same as PE.com's BASH 500 but has a built in PEQ.

I'd probably shoot for about 30 sq. in. if possible, but this is going to make the port VERY long. You can probably scrape by with something in the 20's (in^2) but I would try to keep the port square instead of long and narrow to minimize port noise.

yeah, a 50" port is a bit long :p I was planning on using a 4"aero. It might be a little small, but I think it will work.

I think this is the best help I have had on a thread //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/toast.gif.bc0657bf54b9ee653b6438524461341e.gif

Make a grill for it.
