sub problem plz help

i have two mtx thunders 4512-44 running on a power acoustik lt 980 220 x 2 @ 4 but anyways...when one of my subs hit, it sounds as if its hitting something, mainly when i play late nite tip it gets rediculous...the coil might be burning or something because i can smell something but i turned the level down to 1/4 and i still get it bad...can smoeone PLZ PLZ PLZ help...much thanks

Partially blown voice coil maybe, and the sub isn't moving correctly, causing the sound you hear maybe.

Get a multimeter, and check the impedance. Also, look at the subs while they're playing to see if they're moving in sync.

Or maybe you're getting tinsel SLAP! from the tinsel lead colliding with the cone during movement.
