i am sure that this has been talked about, but i **** at using the search function so i didn't find it... so, to the question. i have a trunk car and i was just wondering what sub/port orrientation seems to work the best in general. i have generally seen sub and port back but i honestly have no clue.

thanks for help. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm not sure either but I gots 2 12's in a vented box faced toward the trunk lid and it pounds the subs are sitting in there normally I haven't tried to reverse them yet

I guess that I should have probably specified since I do not know if it would get different responses, but I am more interested in SQ than SPL as I am sure that there will not be a problem with it keeping up with my front stage. Happy to provide any additional information if requested. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Are you reffering to inverting the subs (magnet out)? I do not know if that would have any effect other than giving you a greater gross volume for the box by taking away the displacement from the subs... I suppose it may also add some gross volume due to the shape of the cone...

I know ported is better for spl and sealed is better for sq
This is generally the idea, but I wanted the gain from the ported box and the decreased excursion as I would be concerned with the amount of output I would be able to get on the low end if I used a sealed box as I only have about 25mm xmax on a 12.

From what I have read (from this forum which does honestly seem to like ported a lot more than sealed), ported boxes should not be discounted for SQ if designed properly. Are they better than sealed for pure SQ applications? I wouldn't say that, but that being said, it seems that, if designed properly, they can sound quite nice.

sub back port back usually seems to do the best in trunk setups. reinforcement of forward wave by rear wave. but yoiu could always just try different combinations
