A lot of vibrations on deck

Setup:

Amplifier: 300W Dual 150W RMS

Sub: 8" Infinity REF850W online (running 150W RMS bridged)

Wiring: KnuKonceptz 8guage wiring kit

Now the whole point of this setup was to keep costs down. I got the entire build for $120...and its plenty enough bass for me, trust me...

Now, my problem lies with the vibrations on the deck. This is how I did it...

The bass is very clean when it hits, but on songs when the bass tends to have a lot of vibrations, it is really killing the clean sound I want.

Am I expecting too much out of building it into the deck? I used some Dynomat all around the area of the sub and it made a difference, but it still vibrates quite a lot.

Any help on what I can do to get less vibrations?

Before I looked into this...I realized I should have bought an IB sub. Could this be the problem?

Thanks,

Robert

Don't worry tint was gone...those pics were before I got it fixed. I bought the car for $500 LOL

...

6 Months later...It was a lot of work, but rock solid now.

I have sound dampening underneath, just don't have a latest picture yet.

Would a box mounted underneath make a big difference? It sounds to me like it would vibrate just the same...but then again I don't know a whole lot.

Also don't judge on my Dual amplifier...I have one in my other car and it more than adequately meets my needs.

A small sealed box would weigh down the metal making it harder to vibrate.
Gotcha. My dad should be able to make me one at work for free...got nothing to lose. Would you recommend MDF or what type of wood?

nice old school benz...very clean
Thanks. She was an utter abused mess when I bought her, but with some work I revived the dull paint and fixed most of the much delayed maintenance. Right now shes got 87k on the clock so lots of life left.

The reason its rattling is because that flimsy thin piece of steel isn't rigid enough to use as a speaker baffle. You need to do something more like this when you build the enclosure.

If your going to hang the enclosure from the underside of that panel you also may want to put something like foam weather stripping between the enclosure and the steel to further prevent rattles from transferring to the the steel.

I probably need to remove the deck cover and dampen the topside as well before I build a box.

What brand of matting would you guys recommend? I heard fatmat is good for the price. Anything cheaper with similar quality?

Another layer of dampening wont help much. You need to stiffen the panel. Id suggest a piece of wood across the panel, screwed in several strategic places, or even layered fiberglass. The wood would be easier though.

A small sealed enclosure is going to drastically alter the sub performance. I kinda figured you were going for the IB response.
