Sub for classical?

Hey everyone its been awhile since I have been in the game. When I was in high school I was into subwoofers and had subs like alpine type r, PG 12's and 18's, Fi 12s in ported and sealed boxes. Since I have been in college I have not had time to keep up on everything and sold my stereo equipment for money, I currently have some PG Rsds 6.5" components powered from a Alpine PDX-2.150 amplifier for my front speakers. These are cut off at 80hz and I would really like some lower end notes now that I have some more cash to spend. I would like either an 8 or 10" woofer with 300-500 watts rms behind it in a sealed box and was looking for some recommendations from you guys. As far as a budget possibly 100-125 on a sub and 100-150 on an amp, craiglists type stuff and classifieds are always welcomed. What are your thoughts? So far I have looked at the alpine type s 10" and type r 8" for some subs. I am not looking for the 18" ported box car shaking monster right now but just something to fill in the lower end, what are your thoughts?

Thanks for the responses //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'd look at the Polk MM 10". I run a 15" right now and it's in a sealed 1.9^3 box and it sounds excellent. Great output as well for a "sealed" type sub. The 10 would work really well in .75 sealed. Here's a link":Polk Audio MM1040 Mobile Monitor series 10" 4-ohm subwoofer at Crutchfield.com For an amp I'd just get a cheaper 2 channel and run it bridged. Grab something off CL. Whole setup with box and everything might be around 250 bucks.

I would recommend a phd fb 12.1 personally. I listen to a lot of classical and when I had mine in my car it was fantastic.

It is a bit out of the budget though.

Okay with out a doubt check out the American bass VFL 8 there is a bunch on ebay for like 110.00 awesome sub I cannot think of a better value on a sub you could look at a sundown sa8 or 10 they are running in the 150 range. Check out EMFaudio.com they sale b stock sundown stuff with full Warranty.

As far as amps I have really liked my PPI BK1800 it does rated power and is dirt cheap. I am thinking a PPI BK650.1 on the American bass VFL 8 would be a great combo under 300$ Cant beat it. IMHO

sub= american bass vfl 8 for 110.00 shipped or sundown sa 8 or 10 140-155$

Amp ppi BK650.1 = 115$ shipped that's 225.00$ for both amp and sub!!

Cannot say enough about the PPI amp the are fantastic for the money. And those AB vfl 8's are nasty little subs for 135$ shipped

Put that AB vfl 8 in a little ported box with that PPI bk 650.1 on it and you will be happy. Remember to get dual 2ohm sub if you are running 1 so u can wire down to 1 ohm.

Yeah did some looking around and I cannot find a better value for quality equipment American bass vfl 8 115.00 shipped and a ppi bk 650.1 125.00 shipped for the win!!

Both on ebay

There ya go! Throw that little bastard in a good ported box and you should be good to go. I've never heard anything bad about the PPI amps either. Should be a good combo.

thanks DB, that definitely helps swallowing a $300 price tag 😂 these would essentially be running midbass for me too

What is your budget? With being exposed to Rain.. I would recommend looking at a marine grade SAS Bazooka for the sub stage
