Sub break-in question

Elaborate for us all?
If they can't figure out how to keep their spider attached, that's their fault. I've never seen that issue before. I don't run SPL brands like DD. But the subs I do/have run do still have over 20mm peak Xmax, so it's not like I'm in the minor leagues here.

If glue alone isn't enough then they need to put a metal lip that the outside ring of the spider will slip under.

I have personally seen a DD 9515G take 3500RMS @ 30 hz tone (well under box tuning) and it took well over 2 minutes straight to bring it down. And that is after 2 full seasons of competing/demos no recomes. I think they know how to assmble their subs.

If you ever felt a fresh DD 9500 brand new out of the box, you would probably understand why they recommend breaking it in to loosen up the suspension. I also think cooling can become a factor when your pushing a lot of power and the sub is not moving to keep the coil cool.

Again, I will fully admit that I have not played with DD stuff. It is not my kind of subwoofer. The SPL they can do does impress me, but that's not the goal of my system.

From the pic, I fully believe that DD could do more to prevent that. Like I said, if they were to put a metal lip for the outer ring of the spider to slip on, and also give more surface area to glue, I think that problem would be much less likely to occur.

Yes, it would cost them more, but their stuff already costs a bazillion dollars. They practically owe it to us/you guys who do run their stuff.

I mean I have dealt with the level 5 soft parts on the level 4 motor and i gave it 3k from the get-go and it didn't have a problem. I guess I haven't played with that stiff of subs then.

But the more power you give it to in the right box, it should move more and so cooling comes into play so I don't see the problem besides cheaping out on the soft parts or labor.

I am sorry I found the video, and my memmory was slighty incorrect. They ran it at full tilt for a minute straight at 20 hz. Then burped them between 20-30 hertz for several minutes.

I do not feel the need to show you clamped numbers. Their TL scores will show that the power is there, as the truck hits 158s on music.

And, that was only 1 dying out of the 4 after that kind of abuse.

That looks like a bad glue job that will bound to happen if you "broke in" the sub or not.
how so? the basket was sanded the spiders were CA'd and covered with 2 ton epoxy

thats not a DD sub *******

Yeah, thats fine, but the Lvl 5 motor is way stronger (and the SPL version has a tighter gap), and the coils will not stay as cool if the sub is too stiff to move.

Okay, so we're constantly changing the brand we're talking about, then? How am I supposed to know when we're talking about DD and someone just posts a picture of a spider?

Personal attack necessary there? What is it with people on car audio forums and immediately resulting to personal attacks?
