What is the best way to break in a sub? Do's Don'ts? I know not to push it too hard til it''s broken in, but how long should this take and what volume to play it at? is there a best type of music/test tones to break it in with? Or does it not matter that much? (This is for my E8)

Thank you sirz. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You should be able to tell when the suspension on the sub loosens up. Many subs are not too stiff to begin with and really do not need to be broken in.

You can play it however you want right out of the box. The suspension may SLIGHTLY loosen but a stiff suspension does NOT contribute to driver damage - it would make it less likely, if anything, due to making it harder to hit Xmech.

not true, I did this playing sweeps to find peak before it was broken in, though I have 3 stiff spiders

Just out of curiousity then, can you explain to me this.

"We recommend to allow at least several weeks of playing time to break in DD Woofers, full break in may take many months. DO NOT play subwoofers at max amplifier power in the first couple of days, give the suspensions a chance to loosen up. As the suspension breaks in, the subs will play lower and louder." I copy and pasted it from the DD website, but maybe they do not know how to use their own equipment properly.

They apparently do not know how to assemble it properly if that's the case.

break in is not needed for a lot of subs on the market, the E8 will be just fine out of the box.

but when dealing with high power stiff spider subs then a break in period is a very good idea, the reason for this being that the spiders can be ripped from the basket or from the cone assembly.

a lot of people dont realize the amount of force that is involved in a 2500-5k subs suspension when playing at full tilt.
