Sub bottoming out?

depends on what your goals are, if you want a nice sounding system with a nice and clean sub stage then go with 2 of them, if you want to get loud, then your going to have to go up on budget, possibly a pair of sa-8s from woofercooker or a single sa-12

Would you reccomend something else for around the same price?
Turn the boost where you want on the amp, and turn your gain all the way off. Put the deck on as loud as you would ever listen to it, then slowly turn the gain up until the note being played by the sub starts to sound goofy. Back it off an eigth from that sound. This isn't as precise as using equipment, but not everyone has an O-scope and this will keep you from tearing your sub up.

Beyond that, don't try to get more out of your equipment than they are capable of. Lots of people make this mistake, and being on a budget, you are going to end up having to replace things.

^^^ turn the boost to where?
if you knew anything about car audio then you would know that bass boost should be shut off, it doesnt work.
The gain would be to match the input coming from the deck at his listening level. The BOOST only changes the steepness of the pitch at 40hz, if that's where you're loudest why not make it steep.

The audio store that did all my stuff showed me that off-hand way of setting when you don't have a scope to properly set it. And before you think about calling them out (since you're obviously so well versed for every application), they were world record holders, and have been competing for 20+years.

EDIT: I had a long post in which I rambled and didn't argue the point at hand so I erased it. It was in reference that not every application would require boost being set to 0.

I let my own penis tune my amps. I just press it firmly against the knobs and it magically turns them to where they need to be.

the reason you dont set the boost for 40hz if that is where your loudest is that will give you a massive peak, which, if you are going for sound quality, is the last thing you want,

spl can be a different story, but it is usually best to tune with an actual eq than with the boost on the amp.

ok, i'll be the first to say it........ doesn't the kenwood have a sub-sonic filter? the puropse of the sub-sonic filter is to keep the sub from bottoming out........ ok, just had to go dig one out of the cabinet to make sure. check to see if it has "ISF" turn that on and try 15hz first, then 25hz if 15 doesn't do it. on another note about bass boost- i instincively leave it off, but when you have an excursion problem like this, you can use it as a tool to turn down the frequencies

Flip the positive and negative leads around on the woofer enclosure. Turn it up a bit and see if that makes a difference. If a speaker is out of phase it can cause bottoming out because it'll pull the cone in when it needs to be pushed out... That might be the problem, but if that doesn't solve it do what the other members have said.
Okay. If you believe this that's fine but don't ask others to subscribe to it. If you've ever had those results in the past, it's because you were suffering from a DC offset problem with your amplifier. Swapping negative and positive leads does the same thing as flipping a phase switch on amplfiiers with that option, it simply inverts the wave form and nothing more. The sole purpose of which, is to facilitate a good phase relationship between the subbass and the midbass.

bb off

headunit at flat

ss filter dosent matter its in a sealed box

back off ur gain a lil or get a better sub. sounds like you already beat the spider and it wont come back or stiffen up. once you strech it to bottom out it will get there easier each time...
