SQL woofer

Not sure what kind of processing he has, but 90Hz at 24 or even 36db/octave could be better than 80Hz at 12. He should definitely mess with the EQ. My box is tuned to 34 and I don't have that problem.
Using one of alpine's newer headunit for my eq, the cde164. Still learning how those adjustments work. When I find out how that's done on the HU I'll see what difference that makes.

Nothing in there about objective SQ measurements. I can "prefer" the sound of my farts in a toilet....
I won't deny they are great woofers, but to try and sell them as inherent SQL woofers? They are just regular overhung motors with a few cool aspects. I doubt OP has ability to try several different configurations of the 3500 series and figure out what is best for him.
DD started the SQL thing many years ago. Why do you think everyone compares their stuff to them.

And all you have to do is call DD and they will tell you what you need. You can get it anyway you want.

When it comes to SQ most woofers will do but they have to have certain aspects to be very good. Transition and the ability to blend. I've heard many winning SQ cars using about every type of woofer out there. From JL to high end Focals.

It's not terrible. It doesn't sound like muddy bass, it just doesn't seem very good when different bass note hits. Hard to explain what I mean. Like the transition to different notes isn't good. I'm not looking for ultimate Sq, just looking to see what's better. My grado cans hit and transition faster. Maybe I'm asking for too much?

I know what your talking about. My SQ HDS315 got loud. But after running Obsidian and American Bass 15's, there was just something missing. And it wasn't the enclosure. I put in my little Exonic EXS10X and got everything I was looking for, minus some output. After my vacation in June I am gonna switch over to two American Bass TNT10's and hopefully have the SQ of this Exonic and the output I am looking for.

Out of all of the drivers ive owned (dd,dc,sundown, american bass,fi,etc..) If I was looking for a driver for sql, I would look for a Treo ssi or ssp.... both the ssi's I have now and the ssp's ive owned were the cleanest sounding woofers I have had and they get loud as well!

That and I've only been to one shop here in Dallas that had DD, they're were kinda ***** about it. They told me my FI was a pos. If they had done a comparison and shown me, I'd probably be using an old DD 3000 series, but they just bagged on my choice. I'd rather get something I could order online to avoid another hassle. If there was a consensus that DD was awesome I'd give them a shot. Just can't see them being that much better than the Sq I'm using. But I've never used one so it may be better.

TBH only subs I hear consistently brought up in "SQL" comparison are the ~2004 RE XXX, TC Sounds 5200, or the JL W7. All three have interesting motor/coil tweaks. Again the subwoofer is only part of the issue...I'm sure many of these SQ winners would say it's mainly an issue of the install and not the equipment. If you want to continue this discourse please feel free to PM me. I'll stop cluttering OP's thread.

If OP decides he would just rather swap out subs and he can pick up DD for a decent price he should try them out. Especially if he can get them to tailor the sub to his enclosure. Another option I would suggest he look at is a Fi Q (tad over budget)

Was that around the time Fi had leads catch fire left and right? It's better than SQ. it's a totally different woofer. From motor to soft parts.
