Can you move the enclosure around currently? Before you start dropping more money experiment. Move the box around. Cover part of the port. Adjust internal volume of the box. Unless money is no object then by all means buy another woofer and see if it works in your current setup. Maybe I missed some details. What type of vehicle? Where's the sub? People like throwing out suggestions for new equipment, but you have to realize that your entire car is the acoustic system. The subwoofer is just a part of that system. If you have a halfway decent sub, power, and HU/processing you can make it sound good while maintaining a decent output.
As far as I know DD does not have any inherent engineering tailored to be an "SQ" sub. Do any of their subs have a linear BL? Doesn't stop them from sounding good when well executed (same could be said for more than 50% of subs out there), but they are not an "SQ" sub by any definition.
