EQ would be part of it. People can knock on soundqubed all they want. For every person knocking on it, there will be 10 saying they're awesome woofers. I mean cscstang himself runs a soundqubed woofer. My friend has an HDS312 in a custom box built for it in a 2007 mustang running close to 2kW on it. It sounds amazing. You HAVE to have good power for good SQ, you'll also notice it playing tighter and faster. Wish you lived closer, I'd be happy to have my friend demo his car for you. Don't jump the gun and start buying everything. NoLoud4U himself has like 1.5kW on his 10" and it's a setup geared toward sound quality. I also have a similar setup, but with 2 12s and you can see what I'm running on them.So you're saying adjusting my eq will enable my sub to have better transitions from bass guitar to kick drum? I've adjusted the slope like you said. Didn't have time to put any rock music on but I will tomorrow morning.
My last setup didn't even have an eq. It was a 12inch sub vs 10, but it still sounded better. Same amp, right now using a kicker 750, trying to buy an amp off the classifieds here for more power. These seems just as loud as ssd. Just doesn't sound as good for rock music. I'll try messing with the eq some more...

If you're getting a new amp anyway, wait for that to get in first. Aim for something around 1.7kW on that thing, it'll do wonders for you. Once you get it, adjust the EQ. I was in the same boat as you when I ran soundqubed q1-1200d on my woofers and I hated the sound. What happened when I put an amp that's almost twice the power? it played tighter, faster, and dug much lower.
I don't care what anyone says, SQ woofers are great, though may not be for everyone - as with most things. You've got a great woofer, I'm sure you have the right box, you just need more power and probably some light EQ.
