SQL woofer

What's a good driver for around $300. I was looking at the icon.

It'll be a 10 with about 1000-1400 watts going to it.

Listen to a little bit of everything, mostly rap, hip hop, and rock. The hds300 isn't very good for metal or rock.

Wanted some opinions. Would like it to be at least as loud as the hds300 but want it to be able to sound better.

I was under the impression DD was more of a SPL driver. How much different would it be over the SQ I'm using now?

DD is based of SQ drivers. Many use them for pure SQ. They just happen to get very loud when needed. Both of those will be a huge improvement.

Most think the DD Z is a SPL woofer but one 18 actually has a EMMA SQ award. I'm sure there are more but that one is documented

No better sound quality. I like the soundqubed woofer, it's just on some rock songs the bass guitar and kick drum don't sound as good as I remember my FI SSD sounding. It gets plenty loud enough for me.

The output is largely dictated by the box you have it in. Different woofers need different boxes to sound their best. Slapping another woofer into a box that was built for another may be hit or miss. You may be out a few hundred $$ while being equally as dissatisfied. As far as loudness, none of the suggested woofers would be too much louder than yours HDS, if at all. What's the box size/tuning? What's your LPF set to? Also, what speakers are you running and where are they crossed?

The 610 would be right there with it. The 3510 would destroy it. Also SQ and DD subs tend to use the same box sizes.

I don't the my W6 idea will work since they only have dual 4s. SQ would go way up but output might drop a bit.

I don't need to increase loudness. I just want it to sound better. It's a 1.75 cubes tuned at 34hz. Bonus for it to be louder. I'm fine with the output. The lpf is set at 80hz. The speakers I will be running are some older cdt speakers and tweeters.
