I have Decided to enter into the SQ competition on May 16thl.

I was going over the score sheet.

I am a litle confused about the system they are looing for.

So, Do I need a center channel?

Would you use one sub or two?

The box I have now is giving the subs about 1.75 cubes each. Should I add poly fill to the sub box?

I got 6x9's in the back dash, they are in foam bafflepods. I am thinking about coating the inside of the pods with resin and adding polyfill in the pods to stimulate more airspace.

I am a complete newb when it comes to SQ, but from what I picked up at the last comp, nobody uses rear fill for SQ. It destroys the "front stage." And I think they turn their subs off when doing the SQ judging, but dont' quote me on that. And I would think it would require a pretty awesome sound processor to incorporate a center channel correctly. The cars I listened to didnt' have one though.

The way it was explained to me was that it needs to sound like you are at the concert. Everything coming from in front of you. You should be able to hear where each instrument is on the stage... that sort of thing. Keep in mind too that the judging takes place from the passenger seat as well as the driver's, so you can't just point everything at the driver's headrest.

if that is true then I will use my Audiocontrol four1.

I am redoing my doors right now. installing my soundstream ref comp set and redoing my trunk and amp mount.

I could possibly add another 6 1/2 woofer to the front to add more range?

No subs? I can always turn the sub control to mute.

No rear fill? If I use the audiocontrol four1, I can fade to front with that and kill the rear fill.

Just make sure your front speakers sound really good, and that you have some JL audio equipment somewhere in the car and youll win. Depending on the judge you may want to talk about playing dungeons and dragons and whatnot with them, may sway the decision in your favor if they think you play the same game. You know the SQ guys are weird.

WTF

I just read some retarded shit, especially from Malone

Subs aren't muted of off for comps.

subzero. I suggest you go and just listen to the cars there and talk to the judges and competitors. IMO, paying that entry fee, will just be a waste of money.

Talking to and getting advice from the other folks is free.

You might want to read up on the organization that's hosting the comp. different orgs may judge differently or may have different classes.

If this is your first comp I would make sure that it passes the phase test and center correctly then start your eq ish type tuning. Old rules if you didnt do well there it was about 55% of your total score

Well, I have been told that my previous set up was amazing. I liked it. but the install wasnt that great. I used it for about a year. I have had these soundstream comp sitting in my closet for about a the same time. so I decided to put these in. I have a keen ear for music. Everything has to sound alive when I build my systems. With these new speakers, I hope that I can tune them in just right like I had with my old one. The other reason for switching speakers is so that my amp is not running a 2 ohm load. this should be way better. I am cutting out the door pannel. Attatching a birch and MDF baffles so that they pop through the panel and appear blended and contoured. I am thinking about wrapping it in the stock fabric that comes with the car.

I was also looking at my 6x9's They are in a foam pods. I am thinking about applying resin to the inner pod and then when that dries, adding some poly fill.

I am also going to add poly fill to my sub box and put 45 angles in the corners.

I am hoping that I have enought deadner on order to do the trun and doors, mayybe the roof and rear deck.

critque...

If its going to be in Anthem, then it will be a MECA show. Steve Stern (MECA owner) will be there training some people who just opened a stereo shop as judges. Steve has a good ear, but didn't seem to explain what the system was lacking very well after he marked competitors off for something their system was lacking. I think the RTA is the only fair way to judge. Number don't lie. I'm also a total noob when it comes to SQ... so keep that in mind as you read what I typed. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'd also like to add.... I am actually against anyone who is related in any way to a stereo shop being a judge. They can't give their installs a win or they're biased, and they can't not give their installs the win or they didn't do a good job.
