Someone's gotta say it: Nancy Pelosi needs to piss off.

Yes, but what will the oil be needed for?
can we get off oil for heating oil? transportation etc?

Investments into alternative fuels are rather directed and specific from what I have researched....for instance, most "energy" people are diversifying out of oil and into other things...like water.
It's possible if we could be bothered. If Brazil can do it, I'm pretty sure America can do it as well. Although they do run on sugar-based ethanol, they proved to the world that it's possible to be self-sufficient on things other than petroleum.

Brazil is doing good but not totally off fossil fuels

The success of "flex" vehicles, as they are popularly known, together with the mandatory use of E25 blend of gasoline throughout the country, allowed Brazil in 2006 to achieve more than 40% of fuel consumption from sugar cane-based ethanol for the light vehicle fleet,[15][2] and represents almost 20% of total fuel consumption in the road transport sector when trucks and other diesel-powered vehicles are considered.[16]
Also, will our military fleets be completely off fossil fuels in 10 years? If not wouldn't it be smart to have more domestic oil sources as a security issue?

We won't if it isn't cheap enough. If we try to develop alternatives....and the price of gas falls, what incentive does anyone have to further develop the alternatives?
This is how I feel about drilling. We have the means too, but if we did itll just put us in the same position we are in now in 10 to 15 years (more shorter). Im glad prices are up, it gives people the motivation to explore other options. Why band aid the problem of oil when you can develop other means. I mean its like putting a cap on the system knowing you need a battery. I applaud those who stand up to off shore drilling. Buy I d*mn honda, and get rid of the hummer fool!

We are working on it with jet fuels. We are trying to make synthetic fuels.

I would support drilling if they would put it a straw in the ground before the ink was dry. Oil companies won't, nor can they. If it is going to be 2 or 10 years before it can be set up....it seems like a waste of time. In 2 - 10 years, something better will be along the pipeline. High gas prices keep traffic off the road....so I support high prices. I hoped they hit $5....think about the reduction in traffic then.

The fact remains that there are approximately a billion automobiles in the world today. I am not sure how close to the real figure I am with that but I'd say its close enough. China has the largest population... They are starting to drive... That's a far bigger concern than offshore drilling for our own benefits. In 50 years those billion cars aren't going to just disappear... Sure many of them will but the fact remains that petroleum will still very much be a staple to life and transportation. The fact that we have more oil available to us and we are not using it simply ridiculous. If we started to drill now, yes it would take YEARS to reap the benefits but I think that the benefits will be worth it. If we can get to that oil we would not only save money at the gas pumps but also be able to have EXPORTS again which we could use to lower our outrageously enormous debt. Yes I know it's not all about the money. But that is not to mention that the oil drilling and refinery business is a lot cleaner than it was originally. I support off-shore drilling but also support the development of cleaner processes for extracting and refining the oil.

I also think global warming is a crock of shit. Honestly there is scientific evidence showing hot and cold tendencies on Earth. Our greenhouse gases may have sped up the process but that is not to say that it is something that is entirely responsible for the changes.

The incentive to the development of alternative energy is the multi-million dollar reward for a feasible and practical source of alternative energy that will be rewarded to the discovery team.

Cliffs. Drill off-shore but responsibly.

On global warming, again, we may be (are) contributing to it, but it's going to happen regardless. That doesn't mean we shouldn't help to slow it down.
And drilling off-shore responsibly is an oxymoron. That's like saying "honey, you can gorge yourself, but try to use moderation".

1. Think what you will; Wright should never have been made into an issue. McCain has had worse on his side, but I don't bring it up because I don't let it reflect his stance on the issues. I suggest you do the same.
2. Again, not once have I called McCain out on his flip-floping (which he does QUITE often) because it's political and has been happening for ages, so no, I don't care. You brought it up with Obama, end of story. Talking about Lou Dobbs as being a source on anything is just as bad as using O'Reilley.

3. No, Richard Lugar definitely didn't come to my highschool over 2 years ago and talk about him and Obama speaking with the Russians a bout nuclear arms treaties. Nope, he's never done anything. I suggest you put up some substance that McCain has done if you're going to attack Obama.

4 & 5. More complaining, you seem to be getting good at this
1. how many times have you voted? LOL and i cant think of any on any politicians side in the last 20 years..imo this is right up there with David Duke LOL and notice i havent mentioned pfleger LOL

2 read the story look it up...obuma is just like any other left wing nut bar.I listen to Dobbs if you are calling him billy O then why was he bashing congress and bush for more than 4 years? **** Dobbs for being against something that has ILLEGAL attached to it:laugh: especially since he is married to a mexican and back in his early life actually worked with migrant imigrants on a farm...**** dobbs for wanting people to have rights:laugh:

3. LOL yes so you are saying a senator that was in office for 3 months or not even in office helped get a mighty treaty done or did obama put his name on it and choose to speak? who has the record for most "Present not voting" in a term? i find it funny AS HELL because he wasnt even in office 18 months to achieve that record. all it is showing that he wont take a stand on issues..if you watched the democratic debates Edwards totally beat down Obama on it as well...you dont take a standyou dont get much done.

4-5 you have come back with nothing and use the typical liberal excuses "prove it" show a source liberals call it "biased" but actually it is denial. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Obama wants to do what Carter did in 76, tax oil companies, become an appeaser, preached about hope and change.......needless to say Carter sucked BaD. There still is this LOL...http://www.onenewsnow.com/Politics/Default.aspx?id=67551

Audiolife, you really aren't making me want to debate this with you since I'm struggling to sift through the //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif 's and "LOL"'s every other word, so sure, call it a concession if you want, but I'm done debating with you.

LOL it would take MANY YEARS probably even several decades to move off oil as a prime energy source. it takes oil to harvest, takes oil to lubricate machines, to make plastics...not only that in a poor economy how are people going to afford a new car that runs on another fuel??? cars arent as cheap as computers or dvd players...

its OK i don't hate the guy but i look at him like i do Carter....good guy but poor presidential material....with that said i don't think McCain is much better...and Bush wasn't all that great either...but in that i feel i am only stating the obvious //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif the whole Kerry, Edwards, Pelosi left wing nuts just disgust me....Evan Bayh on the other hand is a good dem.

So what do we do when the chinese are drilling just off the coast of Florida through their agreements with cuba?

It will be brought to our shores whether our country chooses it or not.

At this point, I might find myself not voting for the first time. No chance in hell I will vote for Obama, but it is just a total waste for me to vote, because the state of MD is so blindly pro-democrat there is no point to vote against it.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Okay chief, yes, I'm voting for Obama to prove that a moderate black man isn't racist towards a liberal black man. Yeah, I haven't shown that I know his policies backwards and forwards many times before on this site. Just be quiet unless you actually want to debate something. Attacking me does you no good.
listen boss, i was more or less speaking in general, not aiming it solely at you. i was aiming my comment more towards the pathetic white people trying to prove they're not racist by voting for a black man. which is futile. how can anyone know his poilicies backwards and forwards, since he has numerous positions on the same policy. just be quiet until you can be real about a seriously flawed democratic candidate. debating you while you swing from obama's pubes moves the debate nowhere.
