Little help? First time buying online.

Okay, I'm buying something from someone on another board. The guy seems to have a good rep. I'm not sure what the normal procedure is on something like this. I've only every bought online from E-bay or Amazon. This message board thing seems a bit risky...

So I told him what I want and I'm waiting for him to confirm the price and tell me what he wants me to do.

What is the normal process here? Do I just send him money via paypal with nothing other than PM's as proof I had any deal with him? I don't think he's a shady guy, but I just want to know how it usually goes down.

P. S. I just got a lot of flaming when I asked a similar question on the other board. I'll say it here, too: I've never done this before. So if you're just going to laugh and say how retarded I am I already know. Hahaha! Okay, moving on.

but ya, it can be risky sometimes, make sure they have a good rep status, and check with some of the buyers and sellers that have dealt with that individual.

make sure to get plenty of specs and stuff like that.

Use your credit card with PayPal.

Its the only way you'll be protected with PayPal when you arent buying off ebay.

^All good to know. I wasn't aware PayPal had any kind of protection. I thought it was simply a way to keep the seller from obtaining your CC info. I feel a little better knowing that at least.

Also try and confirm the refs through old posts, I have seen scammers use usernames as refs who may not be that active on the board to catch it so it is always good to do as much investigative work as you think you should depending on the amount of the sale.
