Someone's gotta say it: Nancy Pelosi needs to piss off.

I've seen Nancy Pelosi all over the news preaching that we've got enough areas open for drilling already, and that we need to take advantage of that, and there's absolutely no reason to go and drill in more areas, like the Gulf of Mexico. Furthermore, as the Speaker of the House, she refuses to even open up the floor for a vote on this issue? Why?

Nancy Pelosi is a coward.

She knows that if she opens up the floor for a vote, the Senate will pass a bill allowing offshore drilling. This situation is so ridiculous, even Democrats are leaving their party's views in favor of drilling for oil.

According to this article, polls indicate that 60% of Americans are in favor of drilling:

http://www.reuters.com/article/domesticNews/idUSN1844581020080618

And that article was in June... I bet that number has climbed since then!

She's afraid that her outlook that higher gas prices are good will come back and bite her in the ***. Currently, Pelosi, among other left-wing whack-jobs think that higher gas prices will spur the development of alternative fuels. This is true, but Americans are already painfully aware that we need to develop alternative energy sources. I think in her little world, she's delighting at the fact that Bush is taking the blame for this energy crunch, even though its been the left that has been opposing drilling for YEARS. This didn't just happen yesterday. America does need to shift to new sources of energy, but it doesn't have to happen so painfully.

Furthermore, people aren't just pissed that gas is $4 a gallon... People are pissed that 700 billion dollars are leaving this continent each year to build islands in Dubai. We need to drill here, now. Just imagine how huge of a boom the economy would experience if that 700 billion dollars stayed here!

So, Nancy. Get your head out of your *** and allow a vote.

A 2+ year boom that would collapse when the oil supplies dropped. Drilling in the US is not even close to a solution.

Besides, imagine the economic boom in the US when you hold all that oil until the US is one of the last suppliers on the planet.

You're thinking a bit too short-term, in my opinion. Also, you seem to like playing into the partisan bullshit that focuses on what party is doing what or what ideology thinks what, rather than what we as a people are doing to solve problems.

If Pelosi has to piss off, so do 90% of the officials in DC.

i quit calling myself a democrat after Pelosi said that "the surge isn't working in Iraq" then went on to say "the success they are having is due to the Iranians being good" totally taking away any credit from our military ..... she is a pretty sad little socialist lol

Have you read my other thread on this subject? Basically, I think that we need to drill here, make our own gas, keep our money on our continent.

Whilst we are using domestic oil, we need to be developing alternative fuels to slowly phase out gas and bring in hydrogen, ethanol, solar, nuclear, etc.

Gasoline-powered vehicles aren't going away any time soon, and until then, we need to quit buying our oil from the middle east and make our own.

x2

and plus, the us has drilling sites, 60 million acres, IIRC, that we're not even drilling on. we're aloowed to do it, but we're not and demos and reps are goin back and forth blaming each other for why its not happening.

to me , it's like having 50 gourgeous and perfect luxury and exotic sports cars in your basement. you only drive 5 of them but you want more cars cause u think you don't have enough.

good idea but it wouldn't work until we get our *** in a bind, like now. once we have oil for here and coming from here, ppl and politicins willl get satisfied again and then shut up.

thats true too

I won't argue with that thought, but there can be measures put in place to ensure the further development of alternative fuels. I see their rise as inevitable. Scientists are working every day to figure out how to make Hydrogen cheaper. I think once it becomes widely available and as cheap as using gas, people will make the switch.

true, but it'll slow to a crawl once ppl know we have a sufficient amount of oil (again). if we were to drill here in america i.e. say like repubs did get their request to open more sites......and the price of oil dropped from $4 a gallon down to $1.75 within 3 months (impossible , but this is just for my point i'm makin), peopl will go estatic and **** near forget about alternative fuels.

possibly, but that'll take forever too. how many do u know with flex fuels cars? i remember when E85 had that commercial where all those kids were dancin in the streets with yello t-shirts on, smiling and hugging each other:laugh:. E85 bit the dust pretty much.

middle east isnt even the most oil rich area of the world the places that will over take middle eastern countries are not fully tapping into their oil yet..one of those countries is Russia.... they have far more oil than we do and they know where to get it.....unlike us lol
