Should I get a D-Class amp?

So I've been using a MTX RT2200X to run my 10" Kicker CVR (2ohm) for a couple of days and it works well but gets really hot. If I hold my hand on it for more than a couple of seconds I would probably blister. The amp doesnt shut down but I'm still thinking that it cant be good.

I can trade the amp for a MTX thunder 250D if I want to but I need your input first. In my understanding, the amp should run cooler because its more efficient. Also, It should be better for producing bass.

RT2200X= roughly 425 watts bridged

Thunder 250D= roughly 350 watts @ 2ohm

Will I notice the difference in power between the two? Also, my CVR is wired at a 4 ohm final load. Since the 250D is 2 ohm stable, would re-wiring the sub make up for the lost power between the two?

Ok, thanks for the responses. I guess its not really a problem since the sub hits hard and the amp doesnt shut off. (hasn't yet) I'm still a noob with car audio and the fact that the amp gets really hot to the touch worries me a little. Its like a little space-heater behind my seat, haha.

Reading the voicecoil configuration thread, I realized that since I have a 2ohm sub, if I decided to run this amp I would be limited to a 4 ohm final load and therefore only get like 200watts from the amp. Am I correct in this statement?

Yes, you're right... you can wire your sub 2 different ways 1ohm(vc parallel) or 4ohm(vc series) since the 250d is not 1ohm stable you'll have to run it at 4ohm and you won't get full power out of it.

Keep the amp you have is a very good amp.

Class A/B's are far from space heaters...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If it's really a problem, Stinger and others make crossflow fans, but they'll increase the noise floor on quiet passages.

Again, thanks for the responses. Looks like I'll be keeping my current amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif What do you mean A/B amps are far from space heaters?

I guess it may not be a bad thing that it gets hot since I'm thinking about moving back to Wisconsin in a couple of months, haha. The amp is mounted to the back of the box right now because I'm limited on space in the cab of my truck. What I'm thinking about doing is mounting it sideways so the cooling fins are vertical. I'm guessing it'll run a little cooler this way. What do you think?
