Setting gains with dmm

"You sound like George W"

-- George Westinghouse? A man involved in popularizing AC distribution. (also heavily mustached)

Yeah, they look good if you wear a clock around your neck like a moron. U B stylin. Hit an empty coke can and you've got a flat. Dat B cool. Hold your piece sideways to aim, dat be cool too if all you want to hit is a barn. Such a bad azz. Ignorance is bliss which makes you one happy SOB.
i don't wear a clock around my neck. i think that was early 90's. hit a barn?????? there no barns in Chicago. i actually hit a nasty pot hole and bent the rim alittle but the tire wasn't flat. don't know why you talking shit about certain people style. did everyone make fun of you with your tight wrangler jeans and flanel?

Now you were a "heavy" lineman? No such animal. You're one thing: full of shit. Every state is the same, read NATIONAL. The IBEW is an international union, dumbass. You have never been, and probably never will be an electrician. You're a google electrician. A child with a computer. Former government employee? A federally regulated County? You sound like George W (just as believable). We (real electricians) build nuclear plants to solar voltaic. 9 volts to lightning and all in between. Cars are SO complex in comparison. DC is very complicated compared to AC. LCR is simple stuff. Harmonics, child's play. Mister man when you can grow a mustache, talk to me about electricity. Until then kiss your mommy goodnight and don't let the bedbugs bite.
And don't forget he is an ASE certified master tech too! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I am neither an auto tech, nor an electrician, but the comment about AC being much easier than DC is lost on me. To me DC electronics are far easier to master than AC. Sure there are many more standards that make AC simplified for the average homeowner.

But, I personally know a guy that is one of less than 10 guys (or so) who is certified to do super high voltage installs/repairs. Every time there is a major storm anywhere in the US, he is gone for weeks at a time. He supervises the repairs. The guy makes truckloads of $$ (compared to me anyways). I will have to ask him if that is true next time I run into him.

Well that (DC vs AC) just went right over your head. lol

McIntosh > the guy you know

I am an ASE certified Master Tech and I will tell you that Macintosh is a pompus ******* who really needs to understand how automotive electrical systems work before he throws in his two cents.

If he's right with all of his statements then why not just run 8ga to everything, it's cheaper?

WTF is up with this forum. You ****ing mods are lazy. This thread started out pretty good and interesting but then turned into a flame thread about page 3+. WTF.

I was enjoy reading some of the response until people started going off topic and I wasted valuable time having to skim through.

should I fax you a copy of my expired NEC license as a journeyman? or my ASE certificate that just expired in march?

any retard that can read can take the test and pass it. and a heavy lineman works on the power lines at the transformer moron. You want a copy of my 320k medical bills that boulder county paid? do you want a copy of my 37% disabilty settlement that I sued for? I am willing to prove my validity are you? I was never in a pos union and never will be, unions are why the auto industry and our economy are in the shitter now you pompous pos! 24$ an hour to push a button that tells a robot to put a tire on a car or do a spot weld wow real talented. it is people like you and your "UNIONS" that have dragged this great country to its knees. If I was face to face with you, you wouldnt be able to pick yourself up. you can bank on that feggot.

and if you had 1/2 the education that you propose too, you wouldn't need to be here or tell people the wrong things, and you would understand that DC current in an automobile environment depends solely on VOLTAGE DROP YOU STUPID RETARD!

The DMM method is what I used for the longest..Then I found out there are ALOT of flaws with this method. I bought a Fluke 97 handheld o-scope and really learned some things.

I ended up changing my rca input voltage and the gains all together. I gained almost 7db by just doing that.

no way an o scope wont help u //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif JK

doesn't this MC guy seems like one of those old people

that complain about how loud our cars are. I don't even know

why he is here, I'm sure there is a more appropriate forum for him.

And for the record I've only graduated high school and haven't gone to collage yet

but I've seen multiple sites that support the voltage drop over long wire thing.

And if your reading this Mc, don't argue with me i don't want to hear it. (read it)

But now I don't trust my DMM:mad:

And how would i go about setting the wattage my amp puts out if the DMM is

not reliable enough?

Wow I didn't think this thread would get back on topic //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Its been awhile since I graduated, but I believe these equations might be what we are looking for?

P(rms) = I(rms) x V(rms)

V(rms) = V/(square root of 2)

I(rms) = I/(square root of 2)

So if you play a constant test tone and measure the V and I then you should be able to figure out how much power your amp is putting out at that tone. You would need to play many different tones to find your max output..... I think.

Setting gains via a DMM only is only doing it half assed. Setting towards "rated power" will not insure that it is not clipping in your audio system...do it by ear or do it full out with all the right equipment: DMM, an Oscope and if need be a clamp meter as well......

I wasn't trying to do it "half-assed", I was trying to just learn how to do it to see what my amp was actually putting out.
