Pre out voltage and gain

Depends on the range of settings that the amp has. If the amp accepts only .25-4V then the difference would be more than if the amp could use .25-15V (and there are amps out there that will do that). The difference in the first example would be about a 25% increase in the setting for the same power output.

I hear you just double the amount of gain because you halved the input voltage //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

On a serious note, OP, the correct way to set the gain of an amplifier is stickied in this section at the top.

Well since the gain would be pegged at the min for 4V in that example, 2x0=0 and you wouldn't have to change it.

BTW you would be effectively doubling the gain but that would be reflected in a 25% movement of the dial. Increase of 3dB in gain over a range of 12dB.

yeah that, just as long as your amp can take the voltage. I have an orion amp that maxes input voltage at 4V.
