Old Car Install

Hey all,

I'm sure this is a noob question, but after googling, searching, and doing all the other research I could there was still no clear answer.

I have an older car - 1950 Willy's Jeepster. Having the interior done I want to install audio - nothing too fancy, but good enough. The spacing is narrow and I want the speakers hidden as much as possible anyway so I'm looking at the following:

front kick panels - 4" (JVC CSV427 - 4 ohm, 20/160w)

rear seat side panels - 4" (JVC CSV427 - 4 ohm, 20/160w)

rear storage area - 6x9" in sealed boxes (JVC CSV6937 - 4ohm 60/310)

4-channel amp (FLI FL900S-F2) - yes it's not the best

head unit - (Kenwood KDC-448U)

My thought are to run the 2 6x9's on the rear channels (l/r) and the 4 4" on the front channels (l/r).

Will I have an impedance problem running 4 speakers on 2 channels and should I do series or parallel cabling on them? Some have suggested running the 4" off the head unit and the 6x9's off a 2-channel amp. I don't want the 6x9's bass only so not sure how would work.

Thoughts and ideas welcome.

Thank you

with that head unit the 4 4" should be fine off the head unit. as far as the cabling it depends on the amp you have, what it's channel load is at what impedance, things like that. as far as the bass for the 6x9's once again depends on the amp, get one with a high pass filter or an all pass filter which will even out your mids and highs and if you find one with a bass boost knob turn it down so you can manually control the 6x9 bass power. from there you can play with your EQ.

hope this helps

You've chosen some low-end gear. The 4" speakers would be stressed even with head unit power. If that's going to be your setup, I would run the 4 small speakers off the HU and the 6X9's off a small 2 channel amp. You set the amp to either run "full range" including bass, or use the highpass filter to keep sub bass out of them.

But to answer your question, that amp is supposedly capable of running 2 ohm loads, so yes you could run 4 speakers (2 in parallel for each channel) off the front channels of the amp.

run everything off the amp. if it has hpf you can use it to your advantage with the 4's. it'll enable you to have the 4's crossed over at a higher Hz while getting more of a full range to the 6x9's.

this. those 4" speakers will be fine on the amp with the HPF. they will sound just fine. the rear 6x9's off the amp will give you some midbass output.

I would encourage you to consider a "MARINE" amp if you run the jeep with the top off or it's likely to see weather. IIRC, Cadence has an inexpensive Marine amp line that should be reliable and perform as advertized..
