My budget install is to include two 10" subs, being driven by two seperate amps.. audio is comming via preouts on Pioneer head unit...

How should I be wiring these up?.. I mean if Ive got two subs then it would be nice to drive each left and right channel through their respective subs..

Is this right?.. are there issues?.. how best to go about it?.. am I talkin through my butt?.. probably..

Cheers, Adz

The best way to run your subs, in my opinion, is to use one amp. This will do two things for you: It will make sure that they are getting the same signal and power, and it will generally save you money (as one big amp is generally less expensive than two smaller ones).

Beyond doing those two things, it will save you a lot of time wiring if you're planning to complete the install yourself, as you won't have to mess with large power wire, then a distro block, then smaller power wire to your amps.

If you do decide that you want to do two amps, the best way, and someone step in if you don't agree, is to run power wire into your trunk, and then get a distrobution block from which you can send power to each amp...and whatever you do, do not connect one terminal on each amp to each sub. It is very difficult to have the amps set the exact same, and for that you want to make sure that each sub has it's own personal amp, this will help as to not cause imbalance in the sub as it is moving.

Ok.. thanx for that! Think Im managing to keep up. As for having two amps im a bit stuck with that one since I already hav them.. still mite change them sooner rather than later..

Large power cable is already in the boot and fitting the distributer block will be fine..

Hows best to wire the audio? My headunit has pre-amp RCA's for [HIGH]Front Channel, [High]Mid/Rear Channel, and a [LOW]Sub Channel...

As I said before I would LIKE to be able to run left through left sub, right through right sub?...

You don't need to wire subwoofers in stereo, mono is fine enough. You really can't tell the difference. If you got two mono amps then just hook each woofer to one amp and be done with it.

What amp you got anyway?

Anyone with any more ideas?... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
Don't just rush out into buying a system. A lot of people do that and a lot of people end up regretting it (not me, of course //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/angel.gif.fa7795fff6653f4381ba158c55a48b74.gif ) Check out some other headunits before you go out and buy that Pioneer, try some Eclipses and some Alpines. Make sure that which ever headunit you buy, it has three sets of preamp outputs. This way, you have subwoofer controls built in to the headunit and if you ever decide to go post-stock with the speakers and get yourself a set of components, you'll be able to amp them. Some headunits you might want to consider are the Eclipse CD3424 and the Alpine CDA-9807. I know a couple of people who have the CD3424's predecessor, and nobody has had any troubles with it whatsoever, and I would have to recommend that. As for sub-woofers, I would highly recommend saving and not just buying a set of bargain-basement sub-woofers. Also, what are you looking to get out of the sub-woofers, loudness or quality sound? Also, what exactly is your budget?

Budget is low and all am lookin to do is take the load off my exsiting speakers with the subs.. not looking for an *** kicking booming system or anything. Breaking all the rules in the book probably, but bargain basement is exactly where ive been! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Got two Pioneer TSW-255C 700W subs and two shitty Crunch MXB-2125 500W amps to power them.. not great by your standards im sure.. but at the end of the day with all the wiring etc. they've only cost me about £250 (about $350) for all of it!.. if I get the bug and decide I want somethin decent then ive had a little experience doing this.. and I'll sell the lot for £150 and start again!?..

Oh.. my head unit is a pioneer DEH-P9600MP by the way..

So If im gonna wire the subs in mono.. how am I gonna do the wiring anyhowz?.. I have 1 x [LOW] subwoofer output & 2 x [High] Speaker outputs...

1 Sub output... 2 Subs...? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Don't exactly know if it'll work, just looking at a possibility. You can take the stereo signal from the amps and use a Y adapter to bring both down to mono (2-1 Y adapter). Then plug one into one of the sub preamps and the other into the other.

Basically

[Amp]====[Y adapter]-----[Red sub out on reciever]

[Amp]====[Y adapter]-----[white sub out on reciever]

Personally I'd dump the second amp and just use one. You wont notice a difference and it's less of a headache.

Well, first of all the "sub" pre outs on that deck are mono already (same signal through both the left and right). Just run both back to the trunk (or where ever your amps are) and use Y splitters (1 female to 2 males) on each rca. This will give you 2 sets of rca's........one set to each sub amp. Hope that helped you.

P.S. I know thats basically what "pilyin" just said and I just wanted to elaborate a little bit and let you know that it will NOT be a stereo signal to the subs. Mono is better for subs and with this configuration you'll be all set.

Cheers Lads! I'll have to get my self down the ICE shop and get me some splitters then!.. shame about the mono/stereo bit.. but at least I know now..

Im learning!... :thumbsup

Thanx again, Adz

So what part is a shame? You wouldn't want your subs in stereo would you.?? Unless your subs are up front and have seperation from each other you would never be able to hear "stereo seperation" anyways.

Im really very inexperinced with this kinda stuff!.. asking me to wire subs is a bit like asking the pope to undo a bra one handed! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

PJ2003: Acura and Honda are the same company. Honda owns Acura and they distribute the Honda NSX (Acura TSX) and Honda Integra (Acura RSX) etc over in America. Europe and Asia don't have Acura. There is no difference really between the cars except how they are equipped (and a little body styling).. the American market (ADM) prefere all the latest mod cons like climate control, sunroof, heated/leather seats etc. The Japenese Market (JDM) does'nt get these and the cars tend to be more basic but lighter, better equipt for speed and track use.. ie the Honda Integra has 20bhp more power over the Acura RSX but has no leather, sunroof etc.

Hope that cleared it up for you??? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nerd.gif.c6fa51ddf7ff75f1c0371fbc648f70ae.gif

Hey, I wasn't trying to call you anything other than inexperienced. Sorry if it came off as something different. My point was that unless you can put a sub on each side of the car up front (which is pretty much impossible) you want your subs in mono. Otherwise if subs in the trunk get stereo information (sepreate left and right signals) there is more of a chance of getting localizeable frequencies coming from them. Which would noticeably affect your soundstage, shifting it slightly to the back which is what you don't want.

Adam :thumbsup
