Need opinion on Watts for Subs please

i would definitely go with the Alpine type r 12's and a hifonics bxi 1606d or 2608d for that price.
Hell, i'm selling my type r's and hifonics amp for $310 shipped on here. All is in good condition, let me know if your interested.
$310 shipped for all three? That's a good deal.

In a single cab Silverado though, space might be a issue for 2 12's ported. I wonder if he can fit a single 12 ported.

OMG, whatever you say man. My first setup was 300 rms ported, i think i would know a little bit about this.
I'm not trying to argue here, but 300 watts isn't much man. The OP wants it loud if you can't tell.

edit: Ok, i see that you didn't see that part. It's all good now.
Power Handleing doesn't mean jack without taking into account install, Efficiency, Cone area. one sub can sound as loud as another off of half the power. however which the appearant lack of knowledge of the OP, i would say good luck "making the ground shake" with 150 watt subs. and remember this... Starting with one shitty sub and adding more doesn't mean you are gunna double your output. After the first sub, Additional subs only increase output marginally...

in other words, your system is only as powerful as your weakest sub.

amps come in all flavors.

ones that have only 1 channel ( mono ) are specificly designed for subs only.

2 and 4 channel amps are for subs - or tweets. - or a combo of both.

I had a ultra budget system running off a kicker 350w - 4 channel amp.

2 channels powered the 6by9's for the highs at 75w each.

other 2 channels ran bridged to a small 10" sub giving it 175w rms.

was ultra low budget - but it got me started.

hifonics is good value per dollar spent on amps. - they are over rated a little tho.

I have the 1200w version and I guestimate its realley giving off 1k

but it was only $180 brand new.

if searching an amp for you - check its ohm capability.

less is better.

amps that are only capable of handling a 2 ohm load - will die if you hook up 1 ohm to them.

subs have voice coils rated in ohms.

generaly they are 4 ohms.

some subs ( alot actually now adays ) have dual coils.

so a sub with dual 4 ohm coils can be wired to a final load to the amp of 2 ohm or 8 ohm.

- the less ohms a amp sees = the more power the amp will give off.

my hifonics 1200w amp gives off maby 300w at 4 ohm / 750w at 2 ohm / 1000w at 1 ohm

so picking subs that will work with the amp is highly recomended

to make your system use its full potential.

box design also makes about 45% effective - wether your system will sound like poo - or amazing.

1 type r would kick there ***. It's just the truth. But for $90 that is not bad i guess. I thought you wanted to get loud though?
I do.

lol.

I don't understand some of this crap.

Like is the Watt RMS on amps suppose to equal or be more than the Watt RMS on subs?

You said Alpine subs but hifonics amp, i was told it is always best to match sub and amp brand..

is that true?

nah man, your thinking of subs.. you CANT mismatch subs.. but with amps it dont meen shit

and it sounds like your pretty set on getting these comp's so go ahead, and when you get tired of that (wich you will fast) you can always come back to the forums and find another ******* with a good deal

I do.

no. It's always good to equal or overpower your speakers at least a little bit. ( this is called headroom.) More headroom is better, and makes the speakers play to there max potential easier and they will sound better as well. The Type R is rated at 500 rms, but everyone can tell you it can take around 1000 rms daily. Just because a speaker gives a rating does not mean it is exactly true. You will notice many brands are overrated/ or underrated. It's good to buy the underrated brands because they won't explode on you for pushing them a little harder than there max rms ratings. I would suggest you do a little more research though man, good luck.
