It is not clear if 300watts is for the pair of subs or just one. Anyways, I'd consider an Infinity Kappa 120.9w in a 1cu ft box if you can give >300watts to each. It's a good all around subwoofer, with excellent SQ and will handle a bit more power over its rated IMO. 1 to 1.2cu ft cubes is about perfect for it. It has fine SQ to my ear. Very good value. If you can afford a more expensive subwoofer consider Image Dynamics IDQv3D2 or Peerless XXLS 12 from parts express. Both have very good sensitivity and baddass SQ. Peerless should be ok in 1cube, but I'd recommend to give it as much space as you can afford, maybe 1.3-1.5 cubest. Peerless will be the loudest on just 300watts among the three, but IDQ should play louder and with more composure once you give it it >500watts of power.
WoofersEtc.com - SPW-1210 - Nakamichi 12" 1200 Watt Sound Quality Competition SubwooferAny Suggestions for a Sealed (1~1.2 ft cub, 12" 4 ohm consuming only 300W from the JL 450 with 50/50 SQ/SPL consideration?
that is a by-product of clipping. If the temptation exists to do as you say, then it matters not what sub is used. The Nak would be perfect for op's needs. This Idea of under powering hurting any speaker is simply ignorance in this case. The reason why its not a good idea to underpower a sub is because you will be tempted to give it bass boost or turn the gain up higher than it should be, which leads to clipping which puts excess heat on the voice coil leading to failure.
It would be perfect for your application. The amount of power you have will not hurt a thing. If you feel the need to clip your amp, it will not matter what sub you use. If more output is desired, you will need a bigger amp, more cone area, or both.. no matter what. There is no reason that the Nak would not work perfectly with the amp you have. It is not designed with the soft parts that are too stiff for SQ use such as some of the big, beefy subs designed to handle thousands of watts in SPL competition use. Do not let the ignorant who say a 600 watt sub won't work with a 400 watt amp fool you like that.Hi quackhead,I think this would be an great choice if I had more juice to power it, But since I'm limited to 300W this probably wouldn't work well right?
In this forum I believe I've seen that under-powering a subwoofer can be just as bad as way-over powering it....

If you go witht he boston sub which is amazing, i have a passive radiator for it so you would only need a 1 cube box with the sound output of a ported box. also will save on the box since building a sealed box is easier. There's still some time before my installer is available (In November) but I think you have convinced me to go with the Nakamichi. I may get a AQ1200 to go with this sub in the future.
