My NEW build log

grand vitarra? i havnt seen those on the road to often. every time i see these; well it might be a sidekick im thinking of but anyway; their on craiglist and blinged out by gangbangers, candy paint, hydros, 18'' daytons.... just dumb

nice build tho

any rub on the surrounds and sick hu son!
There's no rub on the subs since they aren't hooked up yet. I just wanted it below the cover so I could put it on whenever I didn't want anyone to see a big sound system in my car. I'll take the cover off whenever I'm in it though.

I think I stated the box specs before but it's 6c/ft tuned to 33hz.

I think you're talking about the sidekicks. I rarely see Grand Vitara's around. I really liked the looks of it, I knew there wouldn't have been many rolling around, the interior was pretty nice and it's keyless so that's why I bought it in 2006. The cons are that the plastic panels scratch easily, gas mileage sucks, and acceleration is pretty weak. I'm planning on getting a custom exhaust later to help out the horsepower a little bit.

Just got in a new toy. I'm going to install this in a minute and do some more tuning.

So I installed the xover and set everything up. After a few hours of tuning I finally was able to get it sounding decent. I temporarily mounted it next to my amps but I'll mount it on the box when I get my sub amp so I can make adjustments without having to take everything out and it also came with a bass knob that I'll be mounting up front as well. The wiring will be cleaned up a lot better too. After having to manually adjust all the settings on the xover I'm really missing the digital processors I've had.

Alright, so I did some tuning yesterday and have it sounding pretty good. However, one issue that's really frustrating me right now is that my center and the right side of my soundstage sounds like it coming from slightly above the dash, but my left side sounds like it's below dash height. Does anyone know any tricks to raise the left side of my soundstage a little more to match the rest of it?

Nice build. I'm sure you'll get that stage issue resolved. Good luck.
Thanks man. It's frustrating as all hell cuz I have to do all of my adjustments manually now. Once the xover is mounted on the box it'll be easier though since I won't have to take out the box and subs when I want to try different things on the xover.

man this build looks real nice. I especially like the somewhat stealth installation. All those crossovers peak my interest a little but looks way too complicated for me. Look toward to seeing more of this.

I forgot to mention how I wired everything up. I do have T/A on my HU but it only has 2 preouts. I sent one set of preouts directly to one of the 4ch. amps for use on my Midrange and it's xover is set on the HU to 220hz and set to full range on the amp, according to Zaphs charts on the RS150's they drop off at around 2khz. The 2nd set of preouts are sent to the xover and the midbass is BP from 40hz - around 200hz (I have to double check that). The HP for the tweeters is set to around 3500hz and according to Zaph again they show a drop off at around 3khz. The reason I have the tweeters and midbass together on the xover is because they are facing almost the same direction up front and I figured I could dial in the T/A pretty well with them together, I matched up the midbass to the center stage and then I messed with the individual L + R gains on the tweeters to dial them in a little better.

I did some more tuning and I think I figured out how to raise the midrange soundstage on the drivers side of the car. The left side had been time aligned already and I tried a couple different combinations of putting the speakers out of phase with no luck. I finally tried time aligning the right side mids and it definately raised the soundstage on the drivers side. I had to adjust the gains on the tweeters but didn't get a chance to because I was leaving, so tomorrow I'll give it another shot and see if I can fix that. Overall, the frontstage is sounding really good. Anybody ever time align both sides before to get the left part of the soundstage higher?
