My dad just informed me of some bad news.. help me out..

I'd go for a 5th Gen. Grand Am Coupe. It doesn't have the most horse power, but they are definately quick cars, and have good gas mileage. 20MPG City/29MPG Highway.

I love my 2006 cobalt....2.2l 4 cylinder, power like a 6, sporty, 30 MPG city, 35 MPG highway....but I am looking at the 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid....39 City, 46 highway FTW!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Not necessarily the car you're looking for, but I've recently switched to a toyota avalon (2000), and love the car.

It's got plenty of power, and all the goodies of a luxury car...can be had for a decent price used - and they're toyotas.

I get ~21 city, 26/27 highway...so not great, but for a big car it's not bad.

maybe this isnt a option, but you may look into getting a early 90s honda hatchback/civic as a beater. they get about 40+mpg and they are cheap, and if u just carry liabilty your insurance shouldnt change drastically

that way you could keep your beloved durango

also you dont have to completely abandon the suv to get good gas mileage

my 05 four runner recently got 25-26mpg driving from TN to WV highway, around town its closer to 19-20, but still not bad for a v6 suv

mid to late 70's superbeetle. 30+ mpg if in good shape //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
dont get a super beetle #1 they are ugly compared to the standard beetle and they have a shitty front end that has alot of parts to wear out get a standard beetle if you do

Alex, I'd say focus on finding a 2002-2006 Nissan Altima or Maxima. Either the 2.5 or the 3.5 will provide plenty of power and fuel economy.

Runner up would be the Accord.

Too bad you're limited to about $13,000, because these are right around the corner.

Yeah, when I first got word of the '08 Altima being available in a Coupe style, I autonomously drooled a bit and then went straight to Nissan's website to get details. Very impressive that Nissan is bringing it out.
