MINI Cooper S First build Memphis Car Audio (PICS)

Why do u have to go to a shop anyways.

It's not hard to mount subs and connect wires, they are already ran so that will help u alot.

There's so many options out there. Do some researchin here, u will be surprised how much u can learn.

I agree it is good to know how to do your own shit. But there has to be a clientele for the local shops. I still get my alarms done at local shops, and I have one shop that is terrific with upholstery, so guess who does my beauty panels.... As far as purchasing from them though (stereo equipment) I just do not do it, and they know why....

what do you all have against supporting a local shop?
After the last fiasco I went through while my back was still fawked up, I will never support my local shop, unless it was for something I forgot to buy offline.

Their prices are nutz and most of the time, the installers can give 2 shits........most of the time and their front desk help isn't for shit either.

Least that is how majority of the shops are around here anymore.

Not to mention, there is nothing wrong with working on your ride and getting dirty. Now it isn't for everyone, but the DIY crowd is getting bigger and bigger with plenty of good results.

I know what you are saying, but audio shops are not what they used to be.

Used to be a day when they gave a shit and would work with you on prices and what not. Not like that anymore and you think they would be more competitive with the online prices. Oh well, no sweat off my balls.

I am new to this forum, and fairly new to quality car audio, but have seen and had nothing but good experience with memphis. I am in the process of getting 16-MCD1000 for just over $165 used, and am going with an FI Bl and a custom box tuned to 34hz. There is nothing wrong with used products and a little hard work to get the most out of your money, you can never learn if you don't try it yourself sometime!

Stop being a hardheaded 16 year old and listen to what people are telling you, or don't bother posting. We have all (mostly) been there already. Obviously you're starting out a lot better than a lot of people, and being 16 with that car and $1000 to spend on a system, I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume.....that you're not paying for it. So takethe advice you've been given, return the stuff, buy online and find someone on here local to help you install it. The earlier you start, the easier it will be next time. I'm all for supporting local shops, but I'm much more for DIY and learning. And you save money on stuff on internet stores. It's win-win man!

It's truly painful to see a kid with some money and good intentions get burned by some "make a quick buck" shops. Seriously, before you buy anything else...do more research here. Listen to some of the suggestions of the people here. Go in the box forum and ask if there is anyone local that could build you a box Trust me, there are tons of people here who are trying to sharpen up their skills that would build you a quality box for cheap. While many of the people here were not thrilled with what was put in your car for the money, a better box and some tuning experience would have probably had your setup sounding much better. It looked like your LPF was either set way to low or too high. Probably why it didn't sound the way you wanted it to. It seems like you're way out in T.O. Too bad, I could try to help you if you were closer.

i read the whole thread and was about to post that, Its obvious he doesnt have the capability to do the install himself. I think he did okay with that memphis setup to begin with. Is the dealer not supposed to sell the equipment for a profit? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I may buy all my equipment online but I alway's have the install done by a local shop. My reason being is I work 12-14 hours a night and do it 4-5 night's a week and sleep during the day and the last thing I want to do on my day's off is install a stereo. Another reason I will let my shop do it is the fact they warranty all of the work they do so if anything goes wrong and it's due to how they wired something, how something was set, or just a stupid screw up on there part they will always fix or replace whatever is needed. Not to mention I've known the owner's for over 10 year's and they have helped me out alot and have taught me alot and let me work with them on there comp. car's/vans. They even paid my way to go with them to SBN and DB Drag final's when it was in Cleveland just to have a extra set of hand's to help swap out sub's, amp's, and batteries if needed.

You can try to do it yourself and it really is extremely easy but there is nothing at all wrong with supporting a local shop especially just paying them to do a install. Just don't rush out to the first shop in your area. Check out local forum's, go to some meet's in your area or car show's, or just ask people with system's who did the work and you will be amazed at how much information you can get about all the local shops in the area.

I would probably still be running Audiobahn right now had I not stumbled upon this shop.
