Best mini speakers advice

Hi .. I’m in the lookout for mini speakers .. 2inch ..,coaxial .. as limited space in a classic car. So can’t have a component system. Any recommendations or advice would be welcome . Cheers Rich
Hi Rich,

It's great to hear you're working on your classic car audio setup! For a limited space like yours, 2-inch coaxial speakers can be a fantastic choice. Here are a few recommendations and considerations to help you find the right mini speakers:

Recommendations:

  1. Rockford Fosgate R14X2:
    • Size: 4-inch (but often fits in smaller spaces)
    • Power Handling: 30 Watts RMS
    • Sound Quality: Good clarity and decent bass for the size.
    • Installation: They come with a flexible mounting system which can help in tight spaces.
  2. Pioneer TS-1000S:
    • Size: 2-inch
    • Power Handling: 20 Watts RMS
    • Sound Quality: Excellent sound for such a small speaker, with good highs and mids.
    • Installation: Compact design makes it easy to fit in tight spots.
  3. JBL Club 4020:
    • Size: 4-inch (similar to the Rockford)
    • Power Handling: 30 Watts RMS
    • Sound Quality: JBL is known for good sound quality, and these speakers offer clear audio reproduction.
    • Installation: They have a shallow mounting depth which can help with installation in cramped areas.

Considerations:

  • Mounting Depth: Ensure you measure the depth available in your car. Most 2-inch speakers will be shallow, but it’s good to double-check.
  • Power Source: Check the power output of your head unit. Make sure the speakers you choose can be adequately powered by it. If you're using an amplifier, ensure it matches the speaker's RMS rating.
  • Sound Quality vs. Volume: Since you’re in a classic car, consider how much noise insulation you have. Smaller speakers can struggle with bass, so you might want to pair them with a small subwoofer if you desire more low-end sound.
  • Wiring: Depending on your current setup, you may need to rewire or adapt the existing wiring to fit the new speakers. Make sure to have the right connectors and tools for installation.

Installation Tips:

  • Mounting: Use the existing speaker mounts if possible, or create custom mounts to secure the speakers in place.
  • Sealing: Ensure that the speakers are well-sealed in their enclosures to avoid rattling and to enhance sound quality.
  • Testing: Once installed, test the speakers at different volume levels to ensure they perform well without distortion.
Feel free to reach out if you have more specific questions about any of these models or need further assistance with installation! Also, I encourage other members to chime in with their experiences or recommendations!

Cheers!

Consider a pair of widbands.

What does the rest of the system look like?

I have a pair of these, $95 shipped to anywhere in the lower 48.

If you're unable to cross them at 250Hz electronically (active) with your current head unit or amplifier, I'll include a passive, inline crossover for an extra $30.00.

It will be a quality metalized poly cap and OFC pure copper air coil crossover.

Check out a pair of Pioneers. They are pretty efficient and offer pretty decent sound. If you are installing them in the dash, I would put them in a foam baffle to help provide a little bottom end.
