Inverting a sub???/

Like was said, you will gain some airspace. Probally not enough to affect the tuning to your ear though.

Also you need to make sure you flip the wires on the sub terminals. With the sub inverted, the positive from the amp should go to the negative of the subwoofer and the negative form the amp to the positive of the subwoofer.

You want to cone to move outwards into the listen space when the bass hits. Thats why you flip the wires.

Listen to it with the wires normal and with them flipped, I think you will hear a difference.

I know I can.

Thanks for your help, I will invert it pretty soon. I love the sub but it is kind of an eye-sore. None of my friends have heard of an IDMAX anyways so they will think it must be an awesome sub since it is flipped lol

FYI: When you install a subwoofer, you should try it with both "normal" polarity and reversed polarity to see which way sounds best in your particular vehicle. There is no right or wrong here....just whatever sounds best.

The cone moves in just as far as it moves out with each note.....guess I'm not understanding what you are saying here.

Like squeak said, the cone will move in AND out during the bass notes. The cone moving backwards is not it simply reloading to 'hit' forward again, if that's what you're thinking. And so that is also NOT why you flip the wires. Reversing polarity is about sound wave interaction. You try the different polarities to find out which allows the subs to blend with the rest of the system best. Subs are usually the furthest speakers from your ears, and due to many times using multiple steep slope crossovers the subs can become out of phase with the rest of the system even with all speakers wired for the same phase.
