These drunks could've been on their cellphones too. Doesn't matter. We don't tally how many wrecks are result of someone being inattentive due to a cellphone conversation, so there is no way to quantify it at the moment. I've had to watch out for far more jackasses on their cellphones than i have for the occasional guy thats just out to have a good time.

Edit: Not to mention it would be nearly impossible to prove if the person was on the phone without it either being documented on video or an eyewitness. Even then the witness's credibility could be called into question. It's just very difficult to account for. They could subpoena cellphone records but I'm not sure a municipal court has the jurisdiction nor the resources/time too.

I know you're trying to be a smartass, but I agree with you. Should be harsher penalties for dumbasses talking on the phone, eating, trying to beat their stupid kids, etc...

on the show Mythbusters, they actaully tested to see how talking on cell phones while driving differed from drunk driving. They had them drive an obstacle course w/o phones or drinks, and they did fine. Then, the drivers had to talk on the phone to the bald guy, answering random questions, which required a little thought. Lastly, the drivers had to drink enough beers to be considered legally drunk and re-do the obstacle course.

The tests showed that driving on the cell phone was just as hazardous to others around you when compared to driving drunk. It impaired the drivers in the areas of delayed braking, slower acceleration, and inability to properly park.

Saw it about a year ago, actually kinda cool.

Sit in jail for 12 hours, trying to eat a crappy ham and peanut butter sandwich while some dude is taking a huge dump that he's been holding in for about 10 hours, splattering on the cold stainless steel - all for talking on cell? Then 6 months of expensive classes, no license followed by restricted license, and $200/month for insurance?

I admit, some people can't drive while talking on a cell phone, and I do think they should be pulled over and harassed by Police (like i've seen in Cali, driving on cell been illegal for 4 days now) but i dont think they should face the same punishment as DUI, thats pretty fvckin dumb!

Does anyone else fell stupid, or like an @sshole when they are driving while using the phone? i do, i think its b/c i am always pi$$ed off at others when they are doing it. So when i do it i feel like everyone is looking at me the same way

Why? because they didn't go out and sin before hand? Are we punishing them because they swerved once or twice or are we punishing them because before they drove they went out and sinned?
