I just blew my 6X9'S and need help preventing this from happening again

I have seen several damaged rear deck speakers due to the pressure generated by trunk subs. You may not be giving them a lot of power, but your subs may be moving the cones past their mechanical limit.

Given that you have subs, I agree with changing to 6.5's. If you like to run the volume high, set the gain to low. But I strongly suggest enclosing the rear speakers.

I have tested several Alpine HU's that don't clip RCA outputs at full volume... But speaker outputs are different, especially with boost.
