Help installing alpine deck!

Ok, kr15, Im not doubting you at all here. But are you sure your speaker connections are right? I would jus double check them again. If that dont work then grab each wire on the harness right where it plugs into the hu and gently push them in. (Towards the front of the hu of course) And see if that does anything. Make sure bare wire isnt touching other wires as well.

CARAUDIO.COM= where you can actually get shit figured out...

SMD and the rest=where you really do nothing except...well?....nut swing?

lol thanks guys

He's got good numbers on his leads. Dont think ground is an issue here...
You can still get "good" numbers even if you use a poor quality ground. As the current starts flowing the ground can show its faults. This is one reason why you really shouldn't use the continuity feature on your meter. Looking at the resistance reading can tell you a lot more.

Fenix, I was referring to people who don't know what they're doing. Say you have two wires of the same color and you know one of them is supposed to be a ground. Perhaps the other is a ground until a relay is energized or something. If the technician didn't know what they were doing they might use the wrong wire. As I said, it doesn't lie, but it can be misleading.

basically, if you know what your looking for you should know when and how a relay should act.

example: say your looking for a ground behind the radio. there are 2 green wires. they both read ground. so you would think hmm, why re there 2 grounds? thus you re set your ground to a know ground and then think what could possibly be used behind the radio that would switch on besides ign. mabye dimmer or illumination. thus you test for each by turning on the lights or dimming. ifyou get an instant 12 reading and it doesnt adjust with the potentiometer wit hthe dimmer switch you have ill. if it does adjust its dimmer.

typically when im testing for anything 12v i always use a known ground, nothing on a harness for this reason. then after im sure i find constant, switched, ill., dimmer, amp t.o., and antenna then i go back and test constant with the suspected ground. if i do not geta 12v reading i know i might have a bad ground. becasue we both know that it will not read 12v if it is a bad ground.

although it will never hurt to make your own ground no matter what. just with nissans ALWAYS make your oen ground when in doubt.

for future reference, you never want to hook up the orange wires. cant tell you why, but ive always been told not to because they can damage your dash lights.

and some alpines you have to actually turn on the sub out.
the orange wire is the illumination wire. typically shopw and people do not use it becasue if you use the wrong polarity it will damage the dash lights. waht you have to look for is the decks input for illumination. if the deck has a + 12v illumination wire nd the car does too then your are fine. but if they do not match DO NOT HOOK THEM UP. the easy way to test is to use a METER to test the orange wire. if it gets 12v with the lights on then you have a positive illumination circuit. if it sits at 12v with the lights off and then goes to 0 you have a negative circuit. now if they do not match either you do not use them or you have to use a erelay to reverse the polarity. there are also ,ulti plex lighting circuits, ie mercades benz, austin martin(spelling??). i did a db9 and it was multi plexed so i left it alone.

hope this clears it up. there is a reason they have professional shops for this stuff.
